Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority - LVCVA is Hiring an Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator Near Las Vegas, NV

POSITION EXPECTATIONSThe Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator assists in creating and implementing environmental health and safety programs. This position will focus on improving department safety procedures, coordinating environmental health and safety efforts with LVCVA partners and show moves, participating in safety committees, and ensuring environmental health and safety compliance at LVCVA facilities.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Safety Partnership and Service:
    • Provide guidance and resources to Ambassadors and departmental leaders regarding risk, hazard elimination, and compliance.
    • Ensure compliance with LVCVA environmental health and safety policies and federal, state, and local occupational health and safety regulations.
    • Work closely with various departments, show management, show contractors, and Exhibitor Appointed Contractors (EAC) to assess, implement, and monitor environmental health and safety measures, promoting a culture of safety throughout the organization.
    • Facilitate environmental health and safety training to ensure all Ambassadors have the knowledge and skills to perform their duties safely.
    • Create media for “Safety Talks” campaign initiatives.
  • Risk Assessments and Inspections:
    • Conduct facility and job site environmental health and safety inspections to identify potential risks and assist in developing proper control measures.
    • Work with various departments to implement and update job hazard analysis (JHA) for all operations functions.
    • Respond to, perform, and document investigations of incidents, accidents, and near misses, and implement corrective actions and preventative measures.
    • Participate in the LVCVA safety committee meetings to guide departments’ safety efforts (i.e., departmental safety committee meetings, review of minutes, safety inspection checklists, etc.).
  • Data Analysis:
    • Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) and safety metrics to monitor the effectiveness of environmental health and safety initiatives.
    • Generate regular reports and dashboards to communicate safety performance to management and stakeholders.
Education And Skills
  • High school diploma required; a bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety is preferred
  • Demonstrated successful experience in an environmental health and safety role
  • Proficient knowledge of federal, state, and local codes, laws, and regulations, e.g., OSHA, FEMA, DOT,PHMSA, PUCN, NFPA, ANSI, ASTM, etc.
  • Ability to:
    • Read, write, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, reports, correspondences, and procedure manuals
    • Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public
    • Work a flexible work schedule
    • Interpret technical procedures, codes, and ordinances
    • Compile, interpret, and present data statistically
    • Results-driven professional with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines using attention to detail
    • Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office applications
    CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/REGISRATIONS
    • Must have or complete an OSHA 500 certification developed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration of the U.S. Department of Labor and be continuously maintained while employed in this classification. Failure to complete and maintain the course within twelve (12) months of hire will result in non-confirmation of appointment
    • Associate Safety Professional (ASP) is preferred
    • Possess and maintain a valid Nevada or "border state" driver's license, as defined by NRS 483
    CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPECTATIONSThis position is expected to work closely with LVCVA Ambassadors, LVCVA leadership team, Convention Services, business partners, show management, contractors, and EAC’s to ensure safety and foster a positive safety culture. This person will serve as an information resource for Authority staff, Convention Services, our business partners, contractors, and show management.
    SAFETY EXPECTATIONSAt the LVCVA, safety is everyone’s job. All Ambassadors are expected to demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of safe work practices and to comply with established rules, policies, procedures, and regulations. In addition, all Ambassadors are responsible for eliminating and reporting hazards and incidents. We manage an environment that is safe for all and where tools, guidance and personal involvement are key to our success.
    PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an Ambassador to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.The individual must have the mobility to work in large public spaces and in a typical office setting use standard office equipment, including a computer. Ability to read printed materials and a computer monitor. Ability to communicate in person or over the radio or telephone. Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, bend/stoop, walk/run, stand, and climb, work from elevated locations. Operate equipment such as vales and pumps. Drive a motor vehicle. Work in varying weather conditions.
