Las Vegas Grand Prix, Inc. is Hiring a Track Safety Manager Near Las Vegas, NV

Founded in 2021, Las Vegas Grand Prix, Inc. (“LVGP” or the “Company”) is a start-up business with the goal of promoting the annual Formula 1® Las Vegas Grand Prix. After a successful inaugural 2023 Heineken Silver F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, the Race Operations department has an exciting role available for the Track Safety Manager position, reporting to the VP of Sporting and Race Operations.

POSITION OVERVIEW

This position plays a critical role with track safety, supporting the recruitment and delivery of the race safety team of fire, paramedics, extrication and JCB operators. This position manages the marshals’ equipment distribution around the track, supports the closing and opening of the Las Vegas Strip Circuit, as well as, makes sure that all of the track safety elements are installed following the FIA requirements and procedures.

The Track Safety Manager will take the lead on preparation of personnel and equipment for a safe running of the Formula 1® Las Vegas Grand Prix.

The successful candidate for this role will seamlessly navigate between the detail and the big picture. We are currently a small team and operate with a start-up mentality.

This position will be a contract position working from approximately June - February.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITES

  • Ensures integrated and coordinated response across the race safety functions and infrastructure of the Formula 1® Las Vegas Grand Prix.
  • Oversees and provides leadership to Formula 1® Las Vegas Grand Prix senior race safety team, as well as the USRM officials i.e., Rescue Chief, Track Equipment Manager and Chief Medical Officer (CMO).
  • Supports the Rescue Chief on creating the safety training schedule and training sessions together with Clark County Fire Department.
  • Supports the VP, Sporting and Race Operations on the recruitment of the race safety team: fire, paramedics, extrication team and JCB operators, as well as ensures a coordinated response between all the different teams prior, during and after the Event.
  • Designs and oversees the track cleaning program pre-Event, during and after the Grand Prix, together with Skidabrader. Supervises the track cleaning and readiness for the practice sessions and race including the process of track deep cleaning, burnishing, sweeping and oil spillage cleaning.
  • Maintains oversight over FIA track safety and rescue procedures, specifically but not limited to First Intervention Vehicles (FIV), Extrication Vehicle; guaranteeing that all teams are trained to the highest motorsport standards.
  • Coordinates the pit lane and on-track fire-rescue personnel deployment together with the major stakeholders: FIA, F1, USRM and Clark County.
  • Procures and maintains the FIA required fire and medical safety equipment for First Intervention Vehicles (FIV), Medical Intervention Vehicles (MIV) Extrication Vehicles, i.e., fire extinguishers, cutting tools, ropes, FIA extrication kit, electrical gloves, paramedic kits…
  • Procures and maintains the FIA required safety, fire medical equipment for paddock, and track safety points, including but not limited to helmets, water extinguisher, CO2 extinguishers, leather and electrical gloves and fireproof overalls.
  • Liaises with Clark County on the first response union requirements; ensuring that the number of fire and paramedics teams necessary for the race are always fulfilled and working to minimize the impact on the Formula 1® Las Vegas Grand Prix race operations.
  • Supports the local flaggers and intervention training sessions with presentations and practical exercises focused on fire suppression, spillage cleaning and vehicle recovery, for both F1 and support series.
  • Supports the VP, Race Operations and Sporting, as well as, PENTA, TILKE and LVGP Event Operations on the tack opening and closing procedures, such as concrete blocks reallocation, fence installation and traffic management.
  • Creates and implements a marshals’ equipment deployment and pick up plan, including but not limited to signage, marshals’ boxes, extinguishers, drinks, radios, etc., as well as, recruits the track operations team necessary to handle these operations.
  • Works with the VP of Race Operations and VP of Event Operations, Race Operations Infrastructure Director on the Health & Safety and Security during racing events to ensure on-the-ground coordination.
  • Identifies design risk hazards and defects and implements mitigation before they occur, site safety and monitoring of works for WHS protocols and legislative compliance.
  • Develops key safety functions to be aligned to the Event Sustainability model International Standard IS020121:2012 and the FIA Three Star Certification.
  • Supports the VP of Sporting and Race Operations in the delivery of the business plan, including budget, forecasts and KPI’s.
  • Liaises with the LVGP Warehouse Manager and Director of Logistics on the Race Operations equipment usage, tracking, and transportation all year round.
  • Inventories all Race Operations equipment after the 2024 F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix. Evaluates replacements, procurement, cleaning, and maintenance needed for the 2025 Event.
  • Provides progress reports to the VPs of Race Operations and updates on the safety operations progress.
  • Coordinates post event reports and knowledge transfer within the department.
  • Assists in identifying new business opportunities.
  • Provides positive, strategic leadership to the team, ensuring a high standard of planning, readiness, execution, and delivery of the functions of race operations, venue management and customer experience.
  • Other responsibilities as needed

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5 years of Motorsport experience on track safety and race procedures. F1 experience will be a plus.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Team player with ability to collaborate with other departments as needed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work under pressure, both independently and in collaboration with others to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrate a proficient level of knowledge on FIA and F1 track, marshals and safety procedures.
  • Experience on liaising with first response departments and teams (fire, medical and police).
