Responsibilities: Case Management: Assist in the preparation and management of bankruptcy cases, including Chapter 7, Chapter 11, and Chapter 13 filings. Maintain and organize case files, ensuring all documents are up-to-date and easily accessible. Document Preparation: Draft, proofread, and file various legal documents, including petitions, schedules, statements, motions, and other bankruptcy-related documents. Ensure accuracy and compliance with court requirements and deadlines. Client Communication: Serve as a point of contact for clients, answering questions, providing updates, and gathering necessary information. Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality in all client interactions. Court Filings: File legal documents with bankruptcy courts using electronic filing systems (e.g., CM/ECF). Monitor case dockets and calendars to track filing deadlines, hearings, and other important dates. Research: Conduct legal research on bankruptcy laws, regulations, and case precedents to support attorneys in case preparation and strategy development. Administrative Support: Perform general administrative duties, such as managing calendars, scheduling appointments, coordinating meetings, and handling correspondence. Assist with billing and invoicing tasks as needed. Communication with Parties: Communicate with trustees, creditors, opposing counsel, and court personnel to facilitate case progress and resolve issues. Prepare and send notices, letters, and other correspondence. File Management: Organize and maintain both physical and electronic files, ensuring proper filing and retrieval of documents. Implement efficient file management systems to support the legal team’s workflow. Compliance: Ensure all activities and documentation comply with federal, state, and local bankruptcy laws and regulations. Stay informed about changes in bankruptcy law and procedures. Team Collaboration: Work closely with attorneys, paralegals, and other legal staff to support case development and ensure efficient case handling. Participate in team meetings and contribute to case strategy discussions. Qualifications: Associate degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or a related field. Bachelor’s degree is a plus. 2 years of experience as a legal assistant or paralegal, preferably with a focus on bankruptcy law. Strong understanding of bankruptcy procedures, laws, and regulations. Proficiency in legal research and electronic court filing systems (e.g., CM/ECF). Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal practice management software. High level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality. Certification from an accredited paralegal program is a plus.
