Middle School Mathematics

Lausanne Collegiate School seeks a full-time seventh grade mathematics teacher. There are approximately 260 students in the Middle School and 930 students on the campus.

Lausanne Collegiate School is a coeducational, college preparatory, PK2 (age 2) through 12th grade International Baccalaureate World School located in Memphis, Tennessee whose student body represents 70 different countries. Lausanne develops the individual intellects, talents, creativity and character of boys and girls through student-centered teaching, global diversity, and encouraging, challenging and engaging learning. Qualifications:

• 2 years of teaching experience preferred
• Bachelor’s Degree from accredited university
• Master’s Degree preferred
• General knowledge of curriculum and instructional best practices for adolescent students
• Strong communications, public relations, and interpersonal skills
• Strong passion for adolescent students and understanding of developmental milestones 
• Middle Years Programme (MYP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) experience preferred

Individual Responsibilities:

• Responsible for teaching all students in a grade, including standard and honors level courses
• Serve as a grade advisor/homeroom teacher
• Develop and implement plans for the curriculum programs assigned
• Work cooperatively and maintain professionalism with the grade level team, full middle school faculty and staff, and the parent community 
• Create a classroom environment conducive to learning in an IB setting
• Manage student behavior in the classroom
• Implement individualized learning plans
• Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents and the community
• Participate in meetings and committees as assigned 
• Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behaviors
• Fulfill divisional duties (carpool, lunch, free time) as assigned 
• Proficient in using technology in the classroom to engage students and support the curriculum
• Support the school’s mission and vision statements, and the Lausanne Way
• Other duties as assigned by the Head of School or Head of Middle School 

Course Description:

Seventh grade integrated math focuses on building skills in all five of the mathematics standards – Number System, Algebra, Geometry, and Statistics and Probability. We will focus on building computation skills, problem-solving strategies, improving communication with a mathematical focus, and reflecting upon the findings. The course will stress the essential role of mathematics within the school and in society: mathematics as a universal language, promoting analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills that contribute to the development of modeling and solving problems that arise in the real world. The HL course follows the MYP Math 8 curriculum.
