Description
Seeking a Family Law Attorney
We are a Family Law Firm in Ontario, California, looking for an Attorney who has a passion for helping people going through divorce and custody battles. We strive to maintain our current reputation in helping clients through their divorce or child custody/support case with ease, transparency, and experience so they feel less stressed which will allow them to focus on other important things in their lives.
While we support personal and professional development, we need an experienced attorney who can hit the ground running and provide clients with outstanding representation. You must have a proven history of building trusted relationships with clients, enjoy litigating family law matters, have excellent negotiation skills for settlement, and be able to review and write persuasive declarations and briefs.
Responsibilities
Your Purpose
•Draft and review family law pleadings and forms to ensure they are persuasive, correct, and timely filed. Delegate and monitor the work of Paralegals and Case Managers.
•Appear in court for RFO hearings, DVROs, VSC/MSCs, and Trials on all divorce, child custody, and support issues, and for depositions.
•Engage in conferences with Clients to ascertain their needs, communicate strategy, and obtain information needed from them to execute. We always want them to feel cared for and supported.
•Negotiate settlement with Opposing Counsels/Parties.
•Review case information and documents to determine what is needed to prove our case and assign Paralegal tasks to obtain the information/documents.
Qualifications
Who We Are Looking For
If the statements below appeal to you, then you may be our next Family Law Attorney.
Strategy: We need an attorney who can contribute to developing the strategy of a case and who knows where to find the statutes and case law to back up that case strategy. Someone who can delegate and monitor tasks to Paralegals and Case Managers and execute the strategy.
Litigate: We need an attorney who enjoys litigating; someone who knows their way around the courtroom. Someone who projects confidence and competence on behalf of Clients and the office.
Investigate: We need an attorney who knows how to sort through financial documents, can organize and prioritize discovery, and who can select those important documents/information to support Client's position.
Settlement: We need an attorney who knows how to negotiate settlements that meet the Client's needs and goals.
Client Management: Our new attorney must have a good "bedside manner" so the Client feels cared for, but also be comfortable with "radical candor" so you can help a client understand when they are making decisions contrary to their best interest. We believe in being honest with Clients about the possibility of success and the pros and cons of litigating vs. settling.
Written Skills: We are looking for someone who has excellent writing skills. Someone who is persuasive yet (relatively) concise. Clients declarations are 5 to 7 pages - not 8 to 10.
High EQ: Skills and experience are vital, but your personality, character, intelligence, and integrity are also extremely important. We have a "no jerk" policy that applies to Clients as well as Employees. High-maintenance, humorless, self-entitled, or self-important individuals need not apply.
Solid Understanding of California Family Law: You need to know the nuances of family law. We expect that you have been actively working on family law cases with estates from $200 to $2 million. We want someone who is naturally curious, and always looking to grow and hone their craft.
Flexible: We are growing and you will be called upon to wear various hats when needed. We need someone who does not think that scanning documents and entering your time is "beneath you."
Contemporaneous Biller: We need an attorney who understands the importance of billing for all of their time worked, and who enters their time contemporaneously with the task. We do not have the time to chase you for your hearing notes or billing entries.
Highly Computer Literate: We are a modern firm that does not use paper files except for trial binders. We use multiple computer programs/software and need someone who is extremely comfortable learning and working with two or three monitors at a time.
Salary
Salary is commensurate with skill and experience and is negotiable. The range offered is $77,000 to $120,000. The compensation package includes base salary, plus bonus compensation for production and performance. We offer generous paid time off and pay for continuing legal education, bar dues, and cover your errors and omissions insurance.
How To Apply
If this exciting opportunity appeals to you, we look forward to reviewing your resume and writing sample.
In addition to providing your resume and writing sample, please prepare a cover letter that
1) Explain what you believe are the 3 most important qualities or values for an attorney working with people going through a divorce.
2) Gives the names of 5 professional references who are familiar with your quality of work (supervisor, co-counsel, opposing counsel, judge).
(Anyone who directly calls the office will be disqualified)
We look forward to reviewing your application!
