Description
SUMMARY: Plans, lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs sheet metal parts, equipment and products.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Prepares work to be accomplished by gathering information and requirements; set by the Production Supervisor.
  • Examines detailed drawings, blueprints, product specifications to determine sequence and methods of fabricating, assembling and installing sheet metal products.
  • Selects gauge and type of sheet metal according to product specifications.
  • Lays out and marks dimensions and reference lines on material to develop and trace patters of product or parts or uses templates.
  • May set up and operate fabricating machines such as shears, brakes, presses, forming rolls, and routers, to cut, bend, block and form, or straighten materials.
  • Trims, files, grinds, deburrs, buffs, and smooths surfaces.
  • Welds, solders, bolts, screws, clips, caulks, or bonds components parts to assemble products.
  • Installs assemblies in supportive framework according to blueprints.
  • Sets up equipment and welds parts, using arc, gas-shielded arc, submerge arc, or gas welding equipment.
  • Assembles parts and equipment.
  • Repairs products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Values and supports the company's safety rules, regulations and culture.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Good communication and organizational skills with a willingness to work with others.
  • Good understanding and background of production and manufacturing in a sheet metal facility.
  • Knowledge of reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings to manufacture product.
  • Knowledge of steel manufacturing, welding, assembling and repair of parts.
  • Knowledge of safety requirements, PPE, welding etc.
  • Skills to manufacture product/parts that are high quality, within tolerances and as required.
  • Ability to interact with all levels and personnel of the company, professionally and in a positive manner.
WORK ENVRIONMENT:
  • The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position.
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles, forklifts, and electricity in the manufacturing areas.
  • The majority of work is performed in a warehouse, manufacturing shop environment, subject to heat and cold.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include, close vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this position, requirements include, standing for long periods of time, bending, stooping, crouching, walking, using hands and arms reaching for objects, carrying, climb or balance, speak and hear.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 1-year prior fabrication, welding experience.
  • 2-year college or technical school, six months to one-year related experience and/or training.
  • Strong mathematical ability when calculating material needs.
  • Proven ability to maintain strict tolerances of parts that are manufactured.
  • Demonstrate qualities that support a safe working environment.
