POSITION: Part-time Accountant
HOURS PER WEEK: Flexible, anticipated to average approximately 10 hours/week
LOCATION: Requires in-person presence in League office in Madison, Wisconsin weekly; balance of hours can be done remotely
PAY & BENEFITS: Position is non-exempt (hourly); pay range is $27 - $32 per hour, depending on experience; eligible to receive retirement benefits
The League of Women Voters of Dane County (LWVDC) is a local, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization whose purpose is to promote informed and active participation of citizens in government at all levels. The organization is active in educating the public about the importance of voting and in getting people registered to vote. LWVDC is led by a Board of Directors, which sets the strategic direction of the organization to carry out its mission. Members of the board and other volunteer leaders are actively involved in carrying out the many activities that comprise the work of the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
The Part-time Accountant is a newly created position that will report to the Treasurer. This position will be involved with the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization. Key responsibilities include the following:
· Processing accounts payable/vendor invoices, including posting to the general ledger software program, preparing checks, and following up with vendor issues.
· Posting employee/board credit card charges to the general ledger.
· Preparing checks for deposit to bank.
· Posting check and credit card deposits to the general ledger and preparing monthly reconciliations to the donor tracking software (LGL).
· Monitoring bank accounts during the month to verify adequate funds are available.
· Assisting with monthly payroll processing and/or posting to the general ledger.
· Preparing monthly bank reconciliations and other schedules as needed.
· Reviewing monthly investment statements and posting activity to the general ledger.
· At month-end, reviewing general ledger for accuracy and following up with any issues.
· Preparing monthly departmental and organizational financial statements from general ledger software.
· Assisting with year-end closing.
· Assisting with the annual budget process.
· Maintaining organizational files (primarily in Google drive).
· Assisting Treasurer with special projects and other duties as assigned.

Required Skills:
· Associate’s degree in bookkeeping/accounting or equivalent experience.
· Proficiency in GAAP/accrual basis accounting processes.
· Proficiency in QuickBooks Online, Microsoft Excel, and Google Workspace.
· Ability to work independently, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, meet time sensitive deadlines and organize workload. Position may require flexibility during peak busy periods or special occasions.
· High-level attention to detail.
· Willingness to learn LWVDC’s practices and policies.
