Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Operates various trucks, equipment, power tools, hand tools, and diagnostic devices to maintain and repair Wastewater Treatment Plant. Other tools and equipment used to perform daily duties such as backhoe, skid steer, gas/electric/air power tools, shovels, masonry tools, carpentry tools, and electrical tools.
- Ensures WWTP is in full compliance with all applicable State and Federal regulations, various permits, for the health and well-being of the community.
- Responsible for conducting all WWTP mandated routine sampling, testing, and record keeping for daily, weekly, monthly, and annually required reports.
- Responsible for conducting all pretreatment sampling, testing, and record keeping for various industrial customers.
- Ensures all laboratory equipment is in good working order and is properly calibrated as required.
- Performs routine maintenance and repairs of head works, grit chamber, oxidation ditches, clarifiers, digesters, and all other components of the wastewater treatment plant.
- Responsible for monitoring and cleaning the various components of the facility to ensure plant is operating properly.
- Detailed monitoring of all flow related components that comprise the WWTP to avoid major breakdowns.
- During high flow periods, responsible for continual monitoring of all aspects of facility operation to avoid major issues with collection system or major system failure at the plant.
- Ability to work on various pumps, valves, HVAC equipment, plant related plumbing, and other major components to overall these various devices to keep them in good working order while plant is continually operating.
- Ability to work on various electrical systems at the WWTP with both single and three phase voltages such as 120/240, 120/208, and 277/480. Also, 12v direct current systems and SCADA connections related to the monitoring of the individual components of the plant. Ability to safely trouble shoot and replace defective components in equipment, junction boxes, service panels, and control panels.
- Periodically assists in cleaning and maintaining vehicles, equipment, and work space such as washing, lubricating, checking fluid levels, changing oil and filters.
- Complies with safety procedures established by regulatory agencies to ensure the protection of all workers.
- Answers questions and provides information to industrial customers and public as needed.
- Working knowledge of the City’s Sewer Use Ordinance how it pertains to plant operations and able to initiate proper response per ordinance
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Utility, construction, or other related work experience preferred.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
- Working knowledge of and ability to make practical application of department safety policies and procedures, and ability to properly operate a various trucks, tools, and equipment.
- Ability to physically perform assigned duties including: far vision, depth perception, hearing, communicating, handling, grasping objects, standing, kneeling for long periods, walking on uneven terrain, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying objects weighing more than 50 pounds, reaching, bending, and crouching.
- Working knowledge of local geography and ability to read and interpret local maps.
- Ability to work alone and with others in a team environment, and maintain appropriate, respectful interrelationships with co-workers.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions/directions, and appropriately respond to constructive criticism.
- Ability to comply with all employer/department personnel policies and work rules, including attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
- Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities.
- Ability to competently serve the public with diplomacy and respect, including occasional encounters with irate and hostile persons.
- Ability to occasionally work extended, weekend and/or evening hours.
- Ability to regularly serve on 24-hour call and respond swiftly, rationally and decisively to emergency situations.
- Possession of a valid Indiana Class B, with air brakes minimum, commercial driver’s license and demonstrated safe driving record.
