Lee County Community Development seeks a dedicated professional to examine residential and commercial building plans, ensuring adherence to the Florida Fire Prevention Code and relevant NFPA standards. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough fire prevention assessments and scrutinize fire prevention plans against building layouts, architectural designs, and related documents to ensure code conformity.
  • Stay informed about relevant laws, regulations, and industry practices; engage in ongoing professional development through education, meetings, and seminars.
  • Offer guidance to stakeholders on code compliance matters and suggest necessary corrective measures.
  • Manage and execute fire safety plan reviews in alignment with organizational objectives, collaborating with other departments and external entities when required.
  • Investigate Fire Code issues using various resources and references.

Public Engagement and Compliance:

  • Support public education initiatives, respond to inquiries, and guide property stakeholders on fire safety practices and hazard elimination in compliance with the Florida Fire Prevention Code.
  • Document inspection findings and recommend necessary changes to address any code discrepancies.
  • Enforce corrective measures for identified hazards and conduct follow-up inspections as needed.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as needed.

Education, Experience, Licensing

  • Requires any combination and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or GED and four years of work experience in fire safety inspection, building code inspection, building construction, plan examiner, or a closely related field.
  • Must possess Fire Safety Inspector Certification issued by the Division of State Fire Marshall.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Supplemental Information

  • Skilled in interpreting blueprints and technical specifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive rapport with professionals from various fields and the general public.
