Lee County Government is Hiring a Heavy Equipment Operator - Roadway Near Fort Myers, FL
The Lee County Department of Transportation is seeking dedicated individuals to fill the role of Heavy Equipment Operator. The incumbent will play a crucial part in operating a variety of heavy equipment to support road construction, maintenance, and infrastructure projects. This role operates under general supervision with defined procedures while allowing autonomy in task completion. Adherence to DOT regulations and a strong focus on safety and efficiency are essential for success in this position.
Operation of dump trucks, front-end loader, and skid steer.
Responsible for building catch basins.
Concrete work; Cut concrete pipes and driveways, fix concrete sea walls, fix leaks with hydraulic cement, pour driveways and sidewalks.
Lay sod.
Haul and lay pipe.
Operation of lowboy, dump trucks, front end loader, and skid steer as well as the transportation of equipment.
Set up a work zone.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to High School graduation or GED equivalent and one year of heavy equipment operation or closely related experience.
This is a safety-sensitive position, which is subject to Drug & Alcohol Workplace testing as provided in DOT regulation 49CFR-parts 40 and /or 382.
Licenses
Possession of a valid Class B CDL with air brakes endorsement and an acceptable driving record is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Possession of a valid Class A CDL is preferred.
Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with team members.
Extreme Weather Conditions: Capability to work in extreme heat and other weather conditions.
The work days and hours for this position are Tuesday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
