School District of Lee County is Hiring a Specialist, ESOL Compliance Near Fort Myers, FL

The School District of Lee County is currently seeking a Specialist, ESOL Compliance at our District office in Fort Myers. This role will assist with the coordination of eligibility and placement of English Language Learners (ELLs) at the District and school levels. In addition, they will provide a consistent level of support services to school-based English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program staff.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associates degree from an accredited institution
  • Two (2) years of related experience with ELL programs
  • Bilingual/biliterate in English and a minimum of one (1) target language (Spanish, French, Creole, ect)

Preferred Requirements:

  • Four (4) years of related experience with ELL programs

Relevant work experience or education may be substituted to satisfy minimum qualifications.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Conduct internal audit of each school’s ELL written program documentation for compliance with state regulations, META consent decree, and county ELL plan.
  • Provide a consistent level of support services to school-based ELL Contacts and Information Specialists regarding identification and resolution of ELL compliance questions and procedures through onsite visits, email system, and telephone communication.
  • Provide a consistent level of support services to District-level ELL staff regarding identification and resolution of compliance questions and procedures.
  • Assist ESOL teachers, basic subject personnel, and Information Specialists by conducting or facilitating appropriate training.
  • Chair ELL committee meetings as needed with schools with no ESOL teacher on site.
  • Act as a trainer/resource to school-level staff regarding ESOL procedures, State Board rules, and the Consent Decree.
  • Verify all edits generated from the mainframe system during FTE survey periods.
  • Develop and maintain a system for providing onsite, telephone, or email support for schools regarding procedural and datarecording questions.
  • Access and retrieve student and program information from the mainframe to use in the internal audit of the school site.
  • Compare written documentation and database reports for accuracy and compliance.
  • Provide periodic reports to the Director and School Principal documenting the status of each school’s program, ELL students, and FTE compliance.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the District’s ELL Plan, Department of Education FTE Data Elements, META Consent Decree, and Title III program requirements as they relate to monitoring school programs and records compliance.
  • Maintain a system for recording program and FTE compliance audit findings.
  • Utilize the Error Summary Report of completed ELL Program Forms to follow up and take preventive actions on incorrect procedures or inaccurate data recording at the school level.
  • Prepare and maintain District ELL forms and procedures manuals in areas of compliance and documentation.  Evaluate training needs for ESOL Contact and Information Specialists in area of program and FTE compliance based on onsite audit findings.
  • Prepare and conduct frequent but specifically targeted training sessions for documentation and compliance topics with ESOL Contacts, School ESOL Administrators, and Information Specialists.
  • Work with the Director in meeting requirements as specified in the District’s ELL Plan.
  • Assist with the revision of the District’s ELL Plan as required by the Department of Education.
  • Assist the Director with state and federal reports.
