Leech Lake Tribal College is Hiring a Wellness Center Director Near Cass Lake, MN

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

The Wellness Center Director will provide leadership and administrative oversight for the Wellness Center by developing mechanisms to ensure quality customer service to students’ wellness and safety. The Director must have strong interpersonal skills that will help them connect with students, faculty, and staff and be responsible for promoting holistic wellness through creative programming, strategic planning, policy review, and growth of the program. The Director will provide vision and strategic leadership and will envision and enact a model of service delivery and professional training to promote optimal psychological, emotional, and physical health and wellness to the campus community.

EDUCATION:

Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling Psychology, or Marriage and Family Therapy. Must hold an independent or graduate-level counseling license in the state of Minnesota. NOTE: LLTC will not provide clinical supervision.

WELLNESS CENTER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides leadership, direction, and coordination to evaluate programs and services in collaboration with other departments and resource entities for effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Oversees the development or revision of the Wellness Center's policies, procedures, and operational activities.
  • Work with Culture & Language Committee to develop culturally appropriate wellness centered programming
  • Coordinate proactive mental health programming and support for students including related training for staff and faculty.
  • Provide supportive and therapeutic counseling to students in the areas of personal life and daily living, social relationships, responsibilities, and behavioral expectations.
  • Serve as a client advocate to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations.
  • Provides coordination for developing and implementing resource plans in collaboration with department programs and partnerships in the community and outside sources to set up presentations and workshops at LLTC.
  • Coordinate with existing tribal, state, and county programs to provide education and direct services for our students. Those services will include anything that will improve the health and well-being of our students.
  • Oversees a resource room that will house all the information from area agencies and resource entities that provide specific services and referrals that match the student's needs to any health, emergency, crisis, or supportive services.
  • Assist students in finding and applying for emergency or crisis services as needed.
  • Provide a safe and confidential environment where students can seek guidance and referral on health and safety matters.
  • Responsible for participating and representing the college at local, regional, and state meetings and conferences relating to the Wellness Center.
  • Work collectively and in conjunction with established traditional healers in the community, which will provide onsite services for students.
  • Conducts program reviews for assigned areas and recommends areas for improvement and program changes.
  • Directly responsible for ensuring student concerns and complaints are heard and initiating corrective action as appropriate according to all LLTC policies.
  • Applies for grants to support student resources such as emergency aid, childcare, respite and mental health.
  • Assists with preparing and managing budgets for assigned areas of responsibility and assists the Grant Manager in looking for additional funding.
  • Ensures all department reporting is done on time to meet deadlines.
  • Serves on various college committees and participates in professional organizations appropriate to the assignment.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience in providing a wide range of mental health services and interventions to Individuals in or from Native American Communities.
  • Work experience in administrative responsibilities in supervision, organization, and coordinating program activities.
  • Grant management experience preferably in Higher Education.
  • Experience in budget development and implementation.
  • Demonstrated competence in strategic planning and evaluation.
  • Experience with writing policies and procedures for health and safety.
  • Ability to manage various activities/projects such as maintaining the web page on health and wellness, and create and/or oversee the creation of promotional/marketing materials including, but not limited to, brochures, flyers and newsletters.
  • Must have a solid combination in conducting training events, and knowledge and experience in project management and implementation of health and wellness programs.
  • Experience in handling crises and tolerate stress professionally.
  • Must have experience in community relations and engagement, and marketing and public relations.
  • Understanding knowledge of and commitment to the mission, vision and goals of LLTC.
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving students from diverse backgrounds, interests, goals, and abilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent interpersonal leadership skills.
  • Ability to effectively plan, develop, and implement Wellness Center policies and procedures in written form.
  • Knowledge of technology used in educational programs and services
  • Computer and technical skills especially those related to data entry and reporting (including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to be detail oriented.
  • Strong public speaking skills with the ability to speak in front of large and small groups.
  • Experience that indicates the ability to interact effectively with leaders among Indian communities, government agencies, scientific and academic communities, medical and health-related organizations, non-governmental groups and the public at large is required.
  • Ability to demonstrate team building through positive relations with co-workers, students, and community partners.
  • Capable of managing multiple roles and responsibilities with limited supervision.
  • Knowledge in mediation practices and resolution techniques.
  • Ability to make effective decisions and take independent action.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Valid Minnesota driver's license and current auto insurance.

Leech Lake Tribal College adheres to Native American Preference laws.

Covid-19 vaccination or an approved medical or religious exemption is required for employment with the Leech Lake Tribal College. Newly hired employees must be fully vaccinated (at least two weeks past their final doses of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen) and provide proof or have an approved medical or religious exemption on or before their start date.
