Leidos is Hiring a Senior Director, Co-Manufacturing, North America Near Chicago, IL

DescriptionThe Sr. Director of Co-Manufacturing is responsible for developing and executing strategic plans aligned with the company’s goals, identifying growth opportunities, and selecting qualified contract manufacturers. They will foster strong partnerships, driving continuous improvement in quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness while championing innovation and cross-functional collaboration. Additionally, they will advocate for new technology adoption, track partners’ performance, and ensure accountability through timely scorecard evaluations.
CAPACITY PLANNING & PROCESS MANAGEMENT
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and execute comprehensive co-manufacturing short- and long-term strategies aligned with the company's overall goals and objectives. Identify opportunities for growth and expansion within the co-manufacturing network.
  • Selection of Partners: Identify and qualify contract manufacturers from an operations and future growth perspective.
  • Partnership Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with co-manufacturing partners, fostering collaboration and driving continuous improvement in quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Cross-Functional Work: Support, champion, and ensure safe, efficient, and effective product commercialization strategies and manufacturing best practices across the organization.
  • Innovation and Product Development: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive innovation in product development and manufacturing processes. Identify emerging trends and technologies to enhance the company’s competitive position.
  • New Technology: Identify, develop, and advocate next generation manufacturing technologies and product delivery platforms at contract manufacturers and equipment suppliers to drive innovation.
  • Tracking and Accountability: Develop timely/monthly contract manufacturing scorecards/framework from concept to commercialization to measure partners’ performance and ongoing capabilities. Operate with agility and speed to correct deficiencies.
CONTRACT MANUFACTURING MANAGEMENT
This role requires a proactive and collaborative approach to effectively manage contract manufacturing relationships, drive operational excellence, and achieve business objectives while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Partner with Health & Safety, Quality & Food Safety, Non-Commodity Procurement, Packaging, Product Development & ensure that all contract manufacturers commercialize products according to the company's quality, food safety, regulatory compliance requirements, and contractual commitments.
  • Manage contract manufacturers to ensure efficient and cost-effective production.
  • Oversee monthly actual-to-budget cost variances, identify root cause and drive cost improvement.
  • Identify and correct cost gaps with suppliers and contract manufacturers to drive improved margins and consistency.
  • Coordinate with Sales, Innovation, QFS, and other internal departments to cross-functionally resolve elevated issues.
  • Manage contract manufacturer to agree to KPIs, SLAs, and lead/organize a bi-annual review with Contract Manufacturers and ofi partners (Business Reviews)
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain, Engineering, Manufacturing Management, Food Manufacturing Technology, or similar discipline required.
Experience
  • 12-15 years of similar role experience in the management of consumer-packaged goods (CPG) manufacturing operations or contract manufacturing operations with a strong preference for food and beverage.
  • Familiarity with an array of contract manufacturing platforms including beverages, Bakery, Chocolate & Confectionery, Dairy & Desserts, Savory & Culinary, Snacking etc.
  • Experience with evaluating and improving manufacturing performance and effectively managing contract manufacturer relationships to drive innovation, quality, food safety and costs. Skills:
  • Strong verbal and written communication with ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Planning and problem-solving skills
  • Leading and influencing individuals in a matrixed organization.
  • Collaborative leadership style
  • Willingness to travel as required to vendor, supplier, and contract manufacturing locations.
  • High degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and presentations.
