JOB
The Director of Library Services provides leadership and vision for the library. The Director is expected to represent the library within the community, develop programs, develop collections, provide budgeting information, and manage all library staff, facilities, and services. The Director of Library Services organizes, directs, and promotes the activities and programs of the library to the College and the community.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Master’s degree in library and/or information science (M.L.S. or M.L.I.S.) from a regionally accredited institution Five (5) or more years of experience working in an academic library setting such as a community college, a 2-year college, or other similar setting is preferred Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and studentsA robust understanding of the principles of library science and technological developments in a modern libraryAn understanding of organizational and management practices as applied to the analysis and evaluation of programs, policies and operational needsMust be creative, flexible, and possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills Knowledge of library database searching, the research process, and principles of active learning as applied to information literacy, and information literacy frameworksExcellent oral and written communication and presentation skillsStrong organizational skills with attention to detailWorking ConditionsDuties are performed indoors in an office environment Requires extended periods of standing, walking, and sitting Requires occasional periods of pulling/pushing items, lifting/carrying items, keyboarding, stooping, or kneeling May have to occasionally lift weights up to 50 pounds
