As a Technical Engineering Manager (TEM) for our Machine Learning team specializing in Natural Language Processing (NLP), you will lead a team of engineers responsible for developing mission-critical features that empower public safety professionals in real-time decision-making. You will leverage your strong systems background and technical excellence to guide the team toward well-engineered and long-lasting solutions. While extensive coding is not required, your ability to assess and elevate the technical bar is crucial. You will participate in engineering, design reviews, and code reviews, contributing to the overall project success. Additionally, you will invest in your team's personal development, offering training, coaching, and mentoring across various subject areas and skills

Role

• Lead a team of engineers focused on building and maintaining advanced NLP solutions enhancing insights and decision-making capabilities for our end users.
• Thoroughly understand product requirements, lead detailed ticket breakdowns, and coordinate with development, product, QA and Devops teams to ensure timely delivery of high-quality solutions aligned with both technical and business objectives.
• Foster an environment of iterative improvement and rapid adaptation to changing business and product needs, utilizing tools like JIRA for project management to streamline task allocation, track progress, and ensure transparency.
• Identify and develop leaders within the team, providing mentorship and coaching to help them succeed.
• Collaborate across teams to develop and translate strategies into plans and schedules, promoting collaboration between engineering teams and stakeholders.

• A bachelor's or master's degree in a related field (e.g. computer science, linguistics, artificial intelligence)
• 6 years of experience in NLP engineering or similar Machine Learning field, plus 2 years of leadership experience.
• Outstanding skills in statistical analysis, machine learning methods and text representation techniques.
• Strong knowledge of NLP concepts and techniques such as Tokenization, BERT, Transformers, Topic modeling, Word embeddings, Sentiment Analysis, Entity Extraction etc.
• Experience using LLM technology, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Semantic search, and Agentic workflows.
• Knowledge of NLP methodologies such as text and speech data representation, semantic extraction techniques, data structures, and modeling.
• Deep and hands-on experience in API design, deployment processes, and a comprehensive understanding of system architecture.
• Experience with machine learning frameworks (like Keras or PyTorch) and libraries (like scikit-learn)
• Experience working with HuggingFace platform along with leveraging open-source models - Ability to work with large datasets and perform data preprocessing and feature engineering
• Demonstrated success in mentoring and accelerating the progress of your reports, as well as being a team multiplier.
• Expertise in leading cross-team engineering activities from requirements analysis and scoping to shipping and operating in production.
• Experience leading and collaborating with remote/off-shore teams, ensuring synchronization across time zones and cultures.
• Excellent project management skills, ensuring timely delivery, resource optimization, and seamless execution across both on-shore and off-shore teams.
• Ability to lead a fast-paced product development team across various locations and time zones, and react quickly to changes in priorities.

• Backend languages primarily consist of Python (for ML team) and Elixir (Other teams).
