In this role you’ll plan, organize and supervise the work activity of the Proto Shop team members. You and your team will support both Parts Manufacturing and Assembly for NPI phases of process development (concept and design).
What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Supervises work activity in and provides daily general direction to team members to promote safety, quality, productivity, and core values.
  • Serves as a technical resource and expert for early DFM and DFA.
  • Ensures team members have the information, tools, equipment, parts, and training to be successful.
  • Selects, supervises, mentors, and develops team members. Interviews and on-boards new hires.
  • Coaches and provides continuous feedback on performance. Addresses employee relations concerns.
  • Supports development and execution of department strategy, processes, policies, and training plan.
  • Utilizes key performance indicators to establish goals and engage team members in continuous improvement and problem solving.
  • Prepares schedules, coordinates resource allocations and rotations.
  • Works collaboratively with interfacing departments, internal customers, and stakeholders.
  • Assists in the preparation of the department budget. Identifies opportunities for cost containment or reduction.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Establishes and actively refines department KPIs and metrics. Prepares various reports and provides regular status updates.
  • Participates in strategy development, problem solving, special projects and the support of managerial priorities. Actively maintains alignment with departmental strategic initiatives.
  • Develops strong relationships with team members to drive a high-performance culture. Leads by example and embodies Leupold & Stevens Core Values. Escalates departmental needs to leadership as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Experience You’ll Need:
  • Associate degree in mechanical manufacturing, or machine technology and 10 years of experience as an Engineering Technician, including machine shop manufacturing, assembly of optical-mechanical products, tool design, product design and/or process development experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Ability to read all mechanical drawings and interpret engineering specifications.
  • Ability to use computer software tools for effective design/process analysis and presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to use of CAD and CAM rapid prototyping processes for supplying prototype parts, tooling, and fixtures.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Ability to perform tasks with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Knowledge of shooting sports and products is desirable.
Physical Requirements:Capable of operating light tools and basic machinery, (collimators, driven assembly tooling, test equipment, lathes, mills, and other shop/assembly equipment). May be required to stand for long periods of time. Some exposure to chemicals. Capable of working within both manufacturing and office environments. Travel may be necessary for professional development or to vendors for developing manufacturing processes.
