Job Title: Computer Technician
Reports to (Title): Chief Technology and Innovation Officer

General SummaryUnder general supervision of the Technology Support Coordinator, serves as the district’s specialist in technology, to include but not limited to maintenance of computer systems, mobile computing devices, networks equipment, and all other technology related components in all district facilities.
Essential Functions
  • Supports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One.
  • Effectively interacts, communicates and collaborates with all stakeholders.
  • Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive learning environment.
  • Provides technical support to students and staff both in person and remotely.
  • Assists with all technology related devices integrated in the school or classroom.
  • Maintains the proper operating condition of computing devices and systems throughout the district and responds to user requests for hardware repair and operational assistance.
  • Installs and maintains software.
  • Assists with network cabling for district buildings as needed.
  • Contacts vendors as needed for repair and servicing of computers, computer components, classroom audio/video and other technology related equipment.
  • Participates in all professional meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Selects, requests, and maintains an inventory of instructional aides, technology tools, equipment, and supplies needed for daily activities; provides for safe storage and proper use of all materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Effectively uses personal technology devices and software applications for the management of pertinent information and communication.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Education/Work Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of experience in computer technology or an equivalent combination of technology training and experience
  • Experience in a customer service role
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associates Degree or higher
  • Two or more years of experience in computer technology
  • Experience with using and working in a work order/ticketing system
  • Experience with a mobile device management system
  • Experience with an inventory management system
  • Experience with Apple devices, specifically iPads and macbooks
  • Experience with Windows devices
  • Experience with Chrome devices, specifically Chromebooks
  • Participated in a technology training program or internship
  • Experience in an education environment
Knowledge/SkillsKnowledge of the policies, procedures and activities of the school district that pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, and operations. Knowledge of the reports that must be prepared and maintained. Thorough knowledge in the proper maintenance, repair and installation of networks and computers, mobile computing devices, and their components. Knowledge of the safety hazards and precautions that apply to electrical work performed on the job. Ability to diagnose and recognize any malfunctions that may be present within the district’s computer systems. Ability to interpret and act upon maintenance requests and work orders. Ability to provide effective troubleshooting and computer user assistance. Ability to learn new technologies as they are introduced into the district. Ability to maintain high standards of accuracy in exercising duties. Ability to anticipate work to be completed and complete work without the need for direct supervision. Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and student records and information. Ability to demonstrate high-level application of technology devices in the performance of daily activities. Ability to demonstrate proper maintenance, safe operation and utilization of equipment, materials and supplies used in daily activities. Ability to interact and communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, administrators, colleagues and all other stakeholders involved in the activities of the job.
Working ConditionsDuties are performed in an office setting with no significant exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Duties require occasional work with cabling and exposure to live electrical panels. Requires operation of computers and related equipment. Physical demands are restricted to work requiring occasional lifting/moving of items up to seventy-five pounds. Routine local travel is required; no overnight travel required.
ResponsibilityNo direct budgetary or supervisory responsibility.
EvaluationPerformance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the school board’s policy on evaluation of support personnel.
