General Summary
Under general supervision is responsible for administering the program requirements for accurate meal counting and recording, and for maintaining adequate documentation on file to support claims in accord with state and federal regulations. Assist with production as assigned by the manager. Work is subject to supervision by the Food Service Manager through general inspection and observation of results and to review by the District’s finance office and external auditors.
Essential Functions
  • Supports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One.
  • Effectively interacts, communicates and collaborates with students, parents, teachers, co-workers, supervisors, administrators and all other stakeholders.
  • Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive working and learning environment.
  • Collects and receipts monies from students, staff and parents for meals and special sale purposes; ensures that the eligibility status for students is current in the computer and is properly transferred at the point of sale.
  • Operates a computerized meal accounting system, cash register, calculator, copier, fax machine, etc.
  • Makes appropriate change and counts back change to customers without the aid of a calculator.
  • Maintains accurate daily records and procedures for free, reduced, and full paid students and staff; prepares accurate deposits of all food service funds collected on a daily basis, makes bank deposits as needed.
  • Follows current state and USDA federal rules, regulations and standard operating procedures regarding the National School Lunch reimbursable meal program, food safety, and sanitation.
  • Complies with standard district accounting and food service cashier procedures and policies; must be knowledgeable and skilled in recognizing student selections that may be counted and claimed as reimbursable meals.
  • Maintains cleanliness and neat appearance around the register areas and serving lines.
  • Attends district scheduled computer, program, and food safety trainings; applies learned principles daily.
  • Assist with food preparation, production, and cleaning
  • Participates in all other professional meetings as required.
  • Effectively uses personal computing devices and software applications for the management of pertinent information and communication as applicable.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Education/Work Experience
  • High school graduate; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Previous experience with computers, computer software, printers, and calculators required
Knowledge/Skills
Knowledge of the policies, procedures and activities of the school district which pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Ability to read, write and follow oral and written instructions.
Must be able to perform general mathematics needed for handling monies, making correct change, accounting for meals, preparing reports, counting simple inventory, and basic bookkeeping skills.
Working knowledge of materials, methods and equipment used in preparing food on a large scale and the use and care of utensils and equipment. Working knowledge of foods and their preparation and food values. Ability to conduct food preparation and service activities in an effective and timely manner in accordance with all applicable regulations, standards and requirements. Positive work ethic required including reporting to work on time and regularly. Ability to maintain high standards of accuracy in exercising duties. Ability to interact and communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, administrators, colleagues and all other stakeholders involved in the activities of the job.
Working Conditions
Must be able to perform manual work requiring some physical strength and agility and at times lifting up to 50 pounds. Must be able to work long hours while standing with routine exposure to cold and heat. Repetitive tasks performed daily include preparation and service of food and meals; receiving, storing, and rotating products; and cleaning duties involving sweeping, mopping and sanitizing kitchen equipment. Requires ability to provide constant attention and meet deadlines. There is a possibility of exposure to biohazard risks including oral secretions and blood. Must wear a district approved uniform, hard soled/non-slip shoes and a suitable and effective hair restraint. May be required to assist cooks in food preparation and/or clean up as assigned

Evaluation
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.
