What is Lifebanc?

Lifebanc, is the federally designated organ, eye and tissue recovery organization that serves 20 counties in Northeast Ohio. Put simply, we facilitate and coordinate organ, eye and tissue donation and transplantation in our community and educate the public on the importance of our mission. Our vision is pursuing a future where organ, eye and tissue donation is embraced as an honor and personal responsibility. Our mission is to save and heal lives. 

Position Description:

This position is responsible for the facilitation of the organ donation process through the identification and evaluation of each potential donor to ensure optimal outcomes for the donor families and recipients.

Essential Functions:

  • Assesses and determines potential donors to maximize donation opportunities.
    1. Provides onsite response to all potential organ donor referrals within the specified timeframe.
    2. Collects and organizes donor information from hospital documentation and clinical staff.
    3. Compiles any past medical and/or social history.
    4. Evaluates donor status and communicates results to the Administrators on call.
    5. Provides onsite follow up for referrals as needed.
  • Records accurate and timely information to maintain thorough donor records.
    1. Initiates and maintains real time case documentation through Lifebanc electronic medical record.
    2. Verifies all appropriate authorizations, clearances and documentation have been obtained.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with key professional contacts including front line staff, physicians, medical examiners, and county coroners to best facilitate organ and tissue donation.
    • Maintains cooperative collaboration with hospital staff and engages opportunities to broaden and strengthen support throughout hospital staff.
    • Provides real time education to hospital staff to help facilitate organ and tissue donation. 
    • Understands organizational structure, positions, and particular needs within the hospital.
  • Participates as an active member of a department and organization to support Lifebanc’s mission, vision, and values.

There are four(4) night shifts available, and the hours are 7:00 pm- 7:30 am.

  • Every Wed/Fri/Sun
  • Every Tues/Weds/Sat
  • Every Thurs/Fri/Sat
  • Every Tues/Thurs/Fri

Must be able to train for 6-7 weeks on day and/or night hours, and training days could vary.

Qualifications:

  • A degree, diploma, or certificate in the clinical health care field or related area preferred (EMT-B, EMT-P, LPN).
  • A minimum of 1 – 2 years of experience in the clinical health care field required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and communicate effectively with a wide range of people, including medical staff, hospital personnel and donor families.
  • Ability to assume responsibility without direct supervision, multitask and to demonstrate effective decision making within the scope of assigned authority.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships.
