What is Lifebanc?

Lifebanc, is the federally designated organ, eye and tissue recovery organization that serves 20 counties in Northeast Ohio. Put simply, we facilitate and coordinate organ, eye and tissue donation and transplantation in our community and educate the public on the importance of our mission. Position Description:

This position is responsible for supporting the mission, vision, and values of Lifebanc by developing and maintaining a positive donation culture within the assigned hospital system, thereby assisting in achieving donation goals. Develops, implements, and maintains commitment plans, analyzes and reports organ, tissue and eye (O/T/E) data and seeks strategies to improve in areas indicated. Partnerships with the Systems Manager to develop and sustain relationships with high level hospital administrators, physicians, nurses, and other key hospital personnel in assigned hospitals to achieve performance goals. The Hospital Services Coordinator III (HSC III) will work collaboratively with hospital staff to build comprehensive donation systems that clearly identify policies, procedures, and resources. The HSC III may take on special projects as assigned by the Systems Manager and may be asked to assist other Hospital Services Coordinators and/or other departments with meetings between Lifebanc and key hospital staff.

Essential Functions:

Develop and maintain relationships with hospital leadership to implement hospital programs and policies that promote organ and tissue donation.

  • Design and conduct professional programs to meet the needs of assigned hospitals. These programs will be based on current data and trends identified by death record review and key performance indicators.
  • Conducts Donor Council and Case Review in assigned hospital, including the system hospitals and participates in relevant committees with systems manager.
  • Collaborate with manager to provide ongoing hospital staff development in process and quality improvement.
  • Create and customize professional education materials for informal and formal presentations, large and small audience educational forums, to include both our hospital and community partners.

Utilizes superior customer service skills to identify decision-making individuals who can influence hospital protocols.

  • Collaborate with key hospital staff members in real-time on all active referrals and/or cases.
  • Collaborate with systems team to develop solutions to issues that impede the donation process.
  • Conducts individual/department meetings with key hospital staff members and systems team.

Completes all required hospital services documentation for assigned hospitals to ensure compliance with Lifebanc and regulatory standards.

  • Inputs all hospital related activity via Lifebanc Electronic Medical Records system (EMR).
  • Composes and responds to all quality system occurrences via Lifebanc occurrence database.

Assesses and determines potential donors to maximize donation opportunities.

  • Provides onsite response to all potential organ donor referrals within the specified timeframe.
  • Collects and organizes donor information from hospital documentation and clinical staff.
  • Compiles any past medical and/or social history.
  • Works with system team to ensure support during active cases.

Develops appropriate Commitment plans for assigned level hospitals to create and/or maintain positive change in practices related to the entire donation process.

  • Analyzes and responds to medical record review data.
  • Provides information about hospital culture, critical issues, and hospital champions, etc.

Provides training, coaching, mentoring, and precepts on hospital services activities to hospital services, organ procurement, preservation, referral services and tissue services staff as directed by the Systems Manager.

The work schedule will be Monday through Friday, but may include weekday, evening and weekend hours as required by the nature of the position. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Minimum 5 plus years work experience in professional environment.
  • Skill in presenting information to various audiences in an engaging and professional manner.
  • Strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to create a training plan and execute the training plan.
  • Knowledge of hospital/facility infrastructure.
  • Ability to assess situations and people and respond in a professional manner, initiate interpersonal interaction with hospital staff and develop ongoing positive relationships while communicating effectively with a wide range of people.

The qualified candidate must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
