Lifecare Medical Transports is Hiring a Director of Operations Near Springfield, VA

General Description:

Has direct responsibility and authority to oversee, direct and guide station supervisors in their daily operations of all regional personnel. Accountable to oversee all supervisors and maintain all state, federal, and local EMS regulations for their assigned employees. Responsible for the successful operations of Northern Virginia/Maryland Ambulance/EMS field operations. Enforce company policies, standard operating guidelines, medical protocols, and directives of Chief Operational Officers and Executive Leadership Team.


Essential Functions:

  • Evaluating supervisors and reviewing evaluations made by them on other employees.
  • Giving guidance and suggesting ways to improve employee performance and morale.
  • Hears grievances and serious employee complaints, or ones not resolved at a lower level, reviewing serious disciplinary cases and disciplinary problems involving key employees.
  • Maintains proper staffing levels for all shifts at all stations/locations.
  • Oversees and approves all schedules and makes sure the most effective allocations of human resources have been used.
  • Assigns supervisors to shifts and stations to assure adequate coverage; making such adjustments and modifications as are necessary.
  • Resolves any scheduling problems in a timely manner.
  • Makes decisions on what programs or major projects should be initiated, dropped, or curtailed to further the morale or efficiency of all employees.
  • Recommends to the COO and/or Executive Team what changes or emphasis need to be made in programs or operations to give LifeCare a cutting edge over competitors.
  • Assures an optimum level of readiness and capability of all vehicles and equipment.
  • Monitors the condition and availability of vehicles and field equipment.
  • Maintains an ongoing personal familiarity with all operational aspects of the company. Riding along in units at least once a month with a different crew is highly recommended.
  • Oversees and gives guidance on all oral and written operational reports turned in by supervisors.
  • Regularly review run reports and call sheets, taking appropriate actions to assure all paperwork is being filled in correctly and according to company policy.
  • Acts as a liaison between supervisors and the COO and Executive Leadership Team.
  • Makes sure all company policies, standard operation guidelines, protocols, directives and other appropriate information or changes are communicated to the supervisors and the supervisors pass on such information to the employees.
  • Collaborates with heads of other departments and other personnel not in the field operations department of LifeCare.
  • Advising the COO and Executive Leadership Team on problems involving the relationship of the work of the field operational department and its impact on efficient and competitive operation of the company.
  • Represents the company in public.
  • Will make contact either in person or by phone, with all contracted facilities a minimum of once each quarter to ensure the facility is having their needs met by LifeCare. A written report is submitted.
  • Works with attends civic functions and programs consistent with recommendations of direct report.
  • Attends meetings of government and community groups and agencies with which the company requires ongoing contact.
  • Provides written report of meetings, discussions, or other contacts monthly.
  • Semi-annually provides long range plans in connection with the prospective changes needed in functions and programs to meet the ever-changing needs of our customers.
  • Yearly provides in writing goals and objectives for the upcoming year, to include desired changes in organizational structure and human resources needed.
  • Controls, implements, and designs control measures needed to provide data for the COO concerning the ongoing
  • operations of the company.

  • Serves as LifeCare’s representative committee or boards within the Regional EMS Council.
  • Oversees and gives guidance to supervisors on maintaining logs, run reports, call sheets, schedules, vehicle reports, performance reviews and all other pertinent records and data pertaining to the activities and operations of the field units and personnel.
  • Oversees all oral and/or written reports on all matters pertaining to field operations generated by field supervisors and as requested by COO and/or EL Team and required by company policies and company standards operating guidelines.
  • Environment will require that routinely you will be exposed to all kinds of weather conditions in the performance of routine
  • duties and/or special assignments.

  • Hazards of the position may include the exposure to infections and environments which could be hazardous to the provider including but not limited to hepatitis, MRSA, VRE, TB, and AIDS.
  • Flexible work schedule is required to include Saturday, Sunday, and holidays.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Skills, Abilities & Knowledge:

  • Minimum of three years' experience in an EMS management capacity.
  • Outstanding leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills.
  • Exceptional knowledge of emergency care procedures.
  • Exceptional knowledge of common physical illnesses, obvious symptoms, and appropriate medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of state and private roads systems in Virginia
  • Demonstrates the ability to think and act quickly and appropriately under stressful situations.
  • Considerable skill in emergency vehicle driving technique.
  • Ability to prepare detailed written reports, legibly.
  • Ability to maintain good working relations with crewmembers, public safety officers, hospital staff, and the public.
  • Exceptional Communications skills, both written and verbal.
  • Associates Degree Required. Bachelors Degree Preferred.
