Lighthouse Lab Services is Hiring a Histotechnologist Near Milton, DE

Are you a seasoned Histotechnologist ready to lead and inspire? Lighthouse Lab Services is thrilled to present an exceptional opportunity for a Lead Histotechnologist / Supervisor (HT / HTL) at a highly regarded medical center nestled in a charming beach town just 20 minutes from Rehoboth Beach, DE.

This role is perfect for a dynamic professional eager to make a significant impact in a supportive and forward-thinking environment.

This is a full-time, Monday-Friday, day shift position with NO weekends or holidays!

Reporting Structure :

Under the direction of the Anatomic Pathology Laboratory Manager.

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Oversee daily operations in the Histology Lab.
  • Provide operational supervision and direction of staff and activities.
  • Plan, assign, review, delegate, and evaluate work of assigned staff.
  • Ensure quality testing results and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain a daily schedule of personnel to ensure adequate staffing.
  • Manage equipment and supply inventory.

Technical Responsibilities :

  • Resolve technical, operational, system, and related issues promptly.
  • Execute all phases of routine surgical pathology specimen preparation.
  • Perform tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, frozen sectioning, H&E staining, simple tissue grossing, and immunohistochemistry.

Communication :

  • Communicate effectively with administrative, medical, nursing, and other staff.
  • Ensure proper coordination and understanding of services in the absence of the laboratory manager and director.

Key Responsibilities :

1. Workflow Management

  • Maximize productivity while maintaining quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure team adherence to departmental policies, procedures, quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Monitor regulatory / accreditation compliance and address deficiencies appropriately.
  • Support department by ensuring compliance with all standards and requirements.

3. Training and Development :

  • Train new and current team members and students.
  • Complete orientation and training checklists.
  • Ensure completion of annual mandatory education and assessment of competencies.

4. Performance Management :

  • Provide feedback on team members' performance.
  • Assist leadership in completing performance appraisals.
  • Participate in the interview process and provide feedback on candidates.

5. Quality and Safety :

  • Recommend and assist with departmental quality and safety programs.
  • Participate in performance improvement and miscellaneous projects.

Qualifications :

  • Minimum of three years of histology work experience in a clinical setting.
  • Advanced technical and operating skills.
  • Proficiency in conducting competency training in all aspects of automated and manual testing.
  • Instrument maintenance and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with College of American Pathologists inspection and / or preparation.

Education :

  • Associate of Science in Histotechnology required OR
  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology, or in a physical, chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science preferred.

Certifications :

  • HT or HTL (ASCP) certification required.
  • QIHC (ASCP) certification is a plus.

Competencies and Skills :

  • Clear communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding patients and team members.
  • Ability to withstand crisis situations.
  • Customer service skills for patients, team members, and visitors.
  • Knowledge and experience with electronic health records.

Additional Information :

  • Sign-On Bonus : $10,000 sign-on bonus.
  • Salary : $32-$45 / hr based on years of experience
