Job Summary

Our clinic is dedicated to providing exceptional eye care and making a positive impact in our community. We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Ophthalmic Technician to join our team full-time. The ideal candidate will have experience in a medical office setting and possess knowledge of ophthalmic procedures and terminology, and be committed to delivering high-quality patient care, supporting our ophthalmologist, and contributing to our mission of enhancing the lives of our patients.

Essential Functions

As an Ophthalmic Technician, your primary responsibilities will include:

Patient Interaction:

o Greet and prepare patients for eye examinations.

o Obtain patient history and document relevant information in the electronic medical record.

o Educate patients about procedures, medications, post-procedure instructions and follow-up care guidelines.

o Address patient concerns and questions, ensuring a positive experience.

Diagnostic Testing:

o Perform eye function tests (e.g., visual acuity, tonometry, refraction).

o Administer diagnostic tests (e.g., OCT, fundus photography, visual field testing).

Support for Ophthalmologists:

o Assist ophthalmologists during examinations and procedures.

o Administer eye drops and medications as directed by the ophthalmologist.

o Schedule appointments and manage patient flow to ensure timely and efficient care.

o Prepare and maintain examination rooms, ensuring all necessary instruments and supplies are available.

o Manage inventory of ophthalmic supplies and assist with ordering as needed.

Job Requirements and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:

Education and Certification:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification as an Ophthalmic Technician (COA). On the job training available with expectation of passing certification testing by 12 months after hire.
  • CPR certification is a plus.

Experience:

  • Experience in a clinical setting and with electronic medical records (EMR) systems is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and independently.
  • Proficiency in performing diagnostic tests and using ophthalmic equipment.
