The Lincoln County Highway Department is hiring for an Equipment Operator! You will be working in a team atmosphere and collaborating with others. The Highway Department has a variety of responsibilities such as snow removal, paving, cracking sealing, tree removal, minimal truck maintenance (there is a mechanic onsite) and making sure the roads are safe for others in Lincoln County. Job Responsibilities:

  • Operate motor grader in performing finish grade work requiring skilled cuts to final grade, grades to blue top, and general maintenance.
  • Operate tractor/trailer units and equipment, operate tractor lawn mower to perform roadside lawn maintenance.
  • Operate dozer with all types of attachments in all road construction and maintenance situations.
  • Operate heavy duty snowplows and tandem trucks, reversible V-Plows and one-way snowplows, sanders, front loaders, and patrol with wing to plow snow, remove snow and ice, and apply sand-chemical mixtures to ice and snow covered roadways.
  • Install and maintain traffic signs on all county roads and remove brush and vegetation from roadways.
  • Variety of labor tasks including but not limited to; installing road signs, installing culverts, flagging traffic in work zones, removing debris from road ditches, cutting trees and brush, cleaning of Highway Department shop and grounds, servicing and repairing equipment and vehicles operated within the department fleet and any other job as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Service and make minor repairs on all equipment operated, and purchase parts.
  • Perform a variety of construction tasks where assigned and necessary to complete construction or maintenance work.

Applicants Will Have: 

High school diploma or GED plus three years at or comparable to a Heavy Equipment Operator or comparable combination of education and experience. Offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check, driving records check and pre-employment drug test. Must possess a valid driver’s license along with a Commercial Class A Driver's License (CDL), and a safe driving record.

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Have:

Possession of a Class A CDL with hazardous materials endorsement. Knowledge of codes Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) regulations. Previous experience in a similar work environment.
