Job Duties And Responsibilities
  • Responsible to fulfill all administrative requirements for hiring, firing, discipline, merit recognition, and technical development of all reporting personnel.
  • Responsible to determine and execute proper manning requirements for the department(s) based on current and future capacity needs. (This is done in conjunction with the Manufacturing Manager)
  • Responsible for assuring that all department equipment is properly maintained and I good working condition at all times. This includes all of the spray-painting equipment, the overhead cranes for the entire building, the air compressors, the general building maintenance, including the outside parking lot. This function includes proper PM and arranging for corrective action when needed. NOTE: Contracts for general maintenance (i.e.: lawn care, snow removal, office cleaning, etc.) as well as the execution of these contracts is the responsibility of the Purchasing Department. Contractual arrangements for plant-use equipment (i.e.: crane maintenance, hi-lo repair services, machine repair services, etc.) are the responsibility of the Purchasing Department. The Manufacturing Supervisor is to work with Purchasing to identify those needs and communicate to the Purchasing Department what is needed and make recommendations for proper repair or maintenance.
  • Responsible for making recommendations about the purchase of new equipment and/or eliminating old equipment.
  • Responsible for prioritizing the daily activities of all Assembly departmental activities/personnel to assure delivery dates that are compliant with established due dates. (Daily work assignments, paint schedules, outside service contracts, etc.) Works in close conjunction with the Electrical/Pneumatic Assembly Supervisor during build, tryout, de-bug, and tear down to assure proper prioritization of work and proper communication between departments.
  • Responsible to assist with the teardown and packaging of machines/units for shipping.
  • Responsible for compliance to all established administrative and quality procedures as outlined by Fori Automation executive management. (ie: QS-9000TE, ISO, Epicor etc.)
  • Is an active participant in subcontracting decision making for the assembly/paint processes. This is done in conjunction with Purchasing, Operations Manager, and Scheduling.
  • Works with the Mechanical Engineering and Machine Shop departments on cost and timing improvements, Engineering Changes, and Continuous Improvement activities.
  • Responsible to assure that procedures/practices are in place that will assure quality workmanship by all department personnel.
  • Provides necessary feedback to Scheduling, Electrical Assembly, Purchasing, and Management relative to specific cost and timing issues.
  • Responsible to determine training needs of department personnel and work with Manufacturing Manager to determine best way to execute those needs.
  • Responsible to fulfill objectives of executive management as they pertain to Assembly functions; this includes all administrative, bureaucratic, and supervisory objectives.
  • Responsible for the proper execution of safety procedures/ training as outlined and identified by Fori Automation management, MIOSHA, and OSHA for the Mechanical Assembly area and personnel. Participating member of Safety and Maintenance Committee.
  • Responsible for monitoring company-established measurables and reprioritizing or adjusting systems/procedures to obtain the desired results. Also responsible for documenting, record keeping, and presentation to management of measurables.
  • Responsible for housekeeping in the following areas of the plant: 1) all assembly bays, 2) parking lot, 3) around any machine that is being worked on by any direct reports, 4) paint booth and surrounding area, 5) air compressor room and surrounding area.
  • Must maintain a professional and cooperative relationship with all Fori personnel and actively participate in problem solving with other departments as it relates to Assembly issues.
  • Responsible for completion of all manufacturing checklists on projects and properly documenting once project is completed.
  • Responsible for the organization of Assembly department data (both printed and electronic) and effective and timely communication with all other departments concerning this data.
  • Responsible to complete a quality check and internal buy-off of all machinery relative to mechanical function and verify that machines/units are ready for buy-off and that all equipment shipped is of quality construction.
  • Assists Mechanical Engineering in the proper design of machines.
Education & Requirements
  • High School Diploma required
  • Journeyman card/status required
  • Associates Degree in Technical field preferred
  • 2 years previous supervisory experience
  • 5 years experience as leader
  • 10 years experience as a Machine Builder

  • Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is required to sit/stand for long periods of time.
