The Lincoln Families West Oakland Mandela Family Resource Center (MFRC) is a community hub where children, youth, and families receive individualized and responsive services and supports. It is a place for community members to gather, lift up empowerment efforts, and act to power improvements in family and neighborhood life. Our staff work together to ensure the delivery of programs and services that reflect the needs of the community and impact root causes of poverty and trauma. Services include:

  • Early Childhood - Building on parents’ strengths to support their children’s development, and providing access to supports to ensure their children are ready for kindergarten and academic success, including family literacy activities, play groups, and coaching;
  • Parent Leadership - Centering the agency of the caregiver by offering a myriad of workshops, skill development and career exploration spaces to assist caregivers in identifying tangible and self-affirming life goals;
  • Health & Wellness - Providing access to case management services as well as workshops/classes to build skills for healthy living and selfcare;
  • Resource Navigation - Linking families to health care and other needed community resources;
  • Community Action - Building capacity for engaging in community service and advocacy about issues that affect West Oakland families, including employment, neighborhood safety, and housing/tenant rights.

West Oakland has a rich history, and has seen changes in cultural and economic conditions that have taken a toll on its residents. In spite of these changes, West Oakland has enormous assets in its longstanding resident families, small businesses, and service providers. As some neighborhoods become affected by gentrification, others maintain a sense of protectiveness in an effort to fight the forces of housing instability and homelessness. West Oakland residents are strong advocates and leaders in equity, have influential political connections, and demonstrate a unique tenacity. POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Director of Family Strengthening and Youth Development, this Program Supervisor provides leadership to staff serving three housing complexes and the surrounding West Oakland Community. Housed at the Mandela Gateway Family Resource Center (FRC), this position specifically oversees and holds accountability for personnel, program functions and services, is responsible for monitoring program budgets, and ensuring program reporting is accurate and timely. This is an essential position that provides leadership and oversight to the Mandela FRC/Bridge housing team with direct supervisory responsibilities for the Case Manager/Family Navigator and Site Coordinators.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Work collaboratively with Program Director to develop mission, goals and objectives, work plans, protocols and practices.

• Work collaboratively with Director of Strategic Partnerships to identify and reach out to community partners to support families.

• Maintain program data, track progress, and generate reports and documentation for Bridge Housing contract and current grants.

• Support and develop staff by setting objectives, providing ongoing coaching and identifying with staff development opportunities.

• Anticipate personnel needs. Plan for future and recommend cost-effective measures for site development and maintenance.

• Responsible for facilitating communication between program staff and other agency personnel.

• Liaison with public and private agencies on behalf of residents and Lincoln.

• Develop and monitor program budgets; provide reports to appropriate agencies in a timely manner.

• Maintain relationships with appropriate public/private administrators and officials, conducting outreach and participating in professional and community networking opportunities.

• Participate when needed in Board and program or other appropriate committee meetings. Participate in all management team meetings and trainings.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: A positive, service-oriented team player who thrives in a fast-paced, busy environment. Genuine interest in developing teams and serving families. Excellent interpersonal, communication (verbal and written) and organization skills. Must be deadline-driven, detail-oriented and able to maintain high levels of confidentiality and professionalism. Maintains a diverse network of community and business relationships that can be accessed to support the program. Must have general knowledge of and skills working with family systems, community trauma, and community organizing or advocacy. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with groups and individuals from diverse backgrounds.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or human services related field required.

• Non-profit and/or experience with school and public systems experience preferred.

• Familiarity with or prior experience as a West Oakland resident or service provider preferred.

• Budget management experience helpful.

• Prior experience managing program data and generating accurate program reports highly desirable.
