Technician II = Range 13 ($19.91 to $29.79/hr)

Technician III (Lead) = Range 14 ($21.00 to $31.45/hr)

Job Description:
TITLE: Parks Maintenance Technician I, II or III
PAY RANGE: Hiring Range dependent upon qualifications* (Range 12 to 14)

Full Benefits (medical, dental, 401k, URS retirement pension, 12-
days paid vacation per yr, paid sick leave, etc.).
Starting pay typically starts at lower end of scale but negotiable
depending on qualifications, certifications, and experience.

NATURE OF THE WORK
Under the Direction of the Parks Superintendent, the Parks Maintenance Technician is responsible for the
operation, maintenance, inspection and repair of the City’s parks and recreation facilities. This position also
supports recreation programming and special events as needed.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Operates a variety of construction and maintenance vehicles and equipment such as backhoes, skid-steers
and dump trucks, and various hand and power tools in parks maintenance functions; installation,
maintenance and repair of sprinklers and water irrigation systems; operations of mowers, trimers; lays sod
or prepares ground for hydro-seed; plants trees, flowers, and bushes; prunes trees and shrubs; rakes leaves,
picks up trash in parks, and hauls garbage to landfill; cleans irrigation grates and storm drains; installs and
repairs fences; ability to apply chemicals for the abatement and eradication of noxious weeds and insects;
snow removal activities including plowing and shoveling; may clean pavilions, park restrooms, or other
city facilities; performs regular maintenance on recreation facilities; performs basic maintenance on
vehicles and equipment; sands and paints equipment; may clean cemetery headstones and/or assist in
cemetery maintenance; moves and sets up tables and chairs for various events; supports recreation
programming including Lindon Days, Senior Programming, sports leagues and recreation and educational

programs. After-hours, night, weekend, and call-out work will occasionally be required. Ability to develop
effective working relationships with supervisor, subordinates, and the public. Motivate, develop, and direct
seasonal employees as they work / directly supervise seasonal and part-time parks maintenance employees
as needed (Tech III/Lead). Performs other related duties.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES. AND SKILLS
Knowledge of:

  • Construction and maintenance vehicles and equipment;
  • Parks and grounds maintenance;
  • Culinary and Secondary sprinkling systems including WeatherTRAK;
  • Record keeping and budget monitoring;
  • Meeting and dealing with the general public.
Ability to:
  • Operate construction and maintenance vehicles and equipment;
  • Operate personal computer for report writing / record keeping and email;
  • Understand verbal and written directions and instructions;
  • Effectively communicate in both oral and written methods;
  • Organize and follow through with multiple projects of various complexity at the same time;
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with City officials, staff, and the general
public; and
  • Adequately perform job functions as listed in ‘examples of duties’.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Technician I: A standard senior high school diploma plus 0 to1 year of related parks maintenance
and/or equipment operation experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Technician II: A standard senior high school diploma plus 3 years of related parks maintenance

and/or equipment operation experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certification through the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) as a Certified Arborist.

  • Technician III (Lead): A standard senior high school diploma plus 5 years of related parks
maintenance and/or equipment operation experience or an equivalent combination of education and
experience. Project management and supervisory experience required. Certification through the
International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) as a Certified Arborist and certification through the
National Recreation & Parks Association (NRPA) as a Certified Playground Safety Inspector
(CPSI) is required for specific lead worker assignments, or the ability to obtain within one (1) year.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Requires a valid State of Utah Commercial Driver License (CDL) or ability to obtain one within six months.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Physical hazards involved in operating construction and maintenance vehicles and equipment;
Moderate to heavy physical effort is required;
Heavy lifting is necessary;
Daily exposure to weather extremes and seasonal conditions (above 90 F degrees and below 32 F degrees)
including working in rain and snow;
Daily exposure to tasks that require protective gear such as safety shoes, protective eye wear, gloves,
hardhats and hearing protection;
Requires ability to see and hear clearly; walk, stoop, stand and balance on un-even ground;
Minimal office work at a desk with desktop computer or laptop is required.
Selected applicant must pass a drug screening test, criminal background check, and driver license check
prior to official offer of employment
