Literacy Volunteers of Washington County is Hiring an Executive Director Near Westerly, RI

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR POSITION

LITERACY VOLUNTEERS WASHINGTON COUNTY

Qualifications: BA or BS and experience in development, management, and administration

Hours: 25 per week

The Executive Director of Literacy Volunteers Washington County (LVWC) is responsible for the operation of this nonprofit organization, whose function is to promote literacy for all adults who wish to improve their English language skills. The work environment is a busy educational center that serves a diverse population and varying literacy needs.

The Executive Director reports to the Board and Executive Committee of LVWC, interacts with the Advisory Board, and manages a diverse population of staff, volunteers, and participants.

In fulfilling these responsibilities, the following skills and experiences are required:

  • Managerial and administrative experience
  • Ambition to create and pursue opportunities for development and fundraising
  • Excellent public speaking, verbal, and writing skills
  • Experience with creating and maintaining a budget
  • The ability to pursue and complete applicable funding grants
  • Strong computer skills

The Executive Director represents the organization at public events including:

  • Events related to the organization’s mission and goals
  • Organization fundraising and public awareness events
  • Nonprofit networking opportunities in the Westerly and Stonington area
  • Development opportunities

The candidate must be able to:

  • Display strong leadership skills
  • Initiate and support fundraising efforts through participation and preparation of materials
  • Interface with Board members, attend and prepare all materials for monthly meetings
  • Implement the Annual Appeal
  • Oversee management of the office, including financial functions
  • Interact professionally with the staff and participants as well as with donors and guests
