Little City Montessori is Hiring a Part-Time Associate Teacher at a Montessori Preschool Near Philadelphia, PA

Little City Montessori is hiring a part-time Associate Teacher in our 5th Street school. Little City Montessori is an independent preschool with locations in South Kensington and Northern Liberties. Little City has toddler, primary and elementary classes, serving students 18 months and up. LCM believes children should be nurtured and celebrated as individuals in order for them to unlock their love for learning and build on their natural curiosity. We have a team of dedicated, passionate, caring teachers in a community of supportive families. Associate Teacher Responsibilities:

  • Supervise students at the playground, and during After Care, keeping in mind the age and ability of each individual learner.
  • Implement positive discipline methods, model good behavior, and guide children to settle their own disputes, checking in with the Lead teacher for coaching or to request guidance if needed.
  • Encourage the children’s independence and sense of order.
  • Interact with children in a manner consistent with the Montessori philosophy and the values of the School, including developing a child’s self-esteem, fostering meaningful relationships with children, and interacting respectfully with them at all times.
  • Resolve any illness, incidents, accidents or issues that occur and/or report these to the Lead teacher (and Director or other administrator if applicable) immediately.
  • Be responsible for the safety and physical well-being of all students in your charge at all times, including reminders for children to wash hands and keeping materials and classroom safe for the age group.
  • Demonstrate appropriate and professional behaviors and appearance at all times when in the school building, during classroom outdoor times, and whenever you are in the surrounding school neighborhood.
  • Aid in the dismissal of After Care students to parents.
  • Ensure ongoing cleanliness and organization of each classroom into which you bring children including guiding children to return all toys to the After Care shelves and roll rugs, etc., organizing the shelf so it is orderly and prepped, and completing any After Care duties as determined and communicated by the Director or Admin.
  • Perform school closing duties to make sure all classrooms and Extended Care areas are ready for opening the following day as determined by the Director or other Administrator such as turning on or off lights, spraying toys with disinfectant, placing the tablet on charger, etc.
  • Be responsible and flexible for all other duties as assigned, especially when team members are out.

Qualifications: Associate Teacher applicants must meet the below requirements.

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Minimum 1 year experience with preschool-aged children
  • Strong personal communication skills and written communication skills
  • All mandated clearances and trainings as required
  • References and a proven track record of caring and nurturing children
  • Overall mobility is essential including sitting, walking, and standing, for extended periods of time during the school day
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs
  • Reliable transportation

Desired Characteristics:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Interest in and an understanding of the Montessori philosophy
  • Experience with Brightwheel is preferred
  • Ideal candidates will be eager to learn, flexible and able to adapt to any situation that arises

The hours are Monday through Friday, 1:00pm - 5:30pm.
