JOB OBJECTIVE AND MISSION:

The Maintenance Technician / Engineer is responsible for performing highly diversified duties, completing work orders, and making repairs related to the maintenance of our Little Sisters Home and offices, in accordance with established policies, procedures, safety standards, and code requirements. The Maintenance Technician/Engineer will strive in keeping the mission of Little Sisters of the Poor, namely the caring for the aged poor with love, respect, and dignity. “Making the elderly happy, that is what counts,” was a saying of the Little Sisters of the Poor foundress, Saint Jeanne Jugan.

The Maintenance Technician/Engineer will demonstrate customer services skills by treating residents, staff, and others with respect, interfacing face-to-face with residents and service team, answering resident questions, responding sensitively to complaints about maintenance issues, and completing assigned work orders with efficiency and urgency.

This is a full-time position, generally Monday through Friday from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm., hours may vary based upon the needs of the department. The Maintenance Technician/Engineer will also share 24/7 on-call duty to handle potential emergency situations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Completes work tickets as assigned

• Troubleshoots basic electrical issues and performs necessary repairs

• Installs various electrical fixtures, light fixtures and replaces light bulbs and lamp ballasts.

• Performs plumbing repairs such as repairing/replacing bath and kitchen sink traps, fixtures, cartridges, toilet repairs, and other plumbing repairs.

• Performs drywall patching and painting as well as occasional painting of entire room during room turnovers.

• Handles emergency conditions such as sewer back-ups, water flooding into apartments, etc. The corrective action also includes cleaning up during and after the condition is resolved.

• Diagnoses and assists with appliance repairs.

• Assists with moving household and office furniture, heavy lifting required.

• Helps with the upkeep and safety of the grounds including trash pickup, snow removal and ice control, except that performed under service contract.

• Protect Residents rights and personal healthcare information.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of the common practices, tools, terminology, and accident prevention precautions of the carpentry, plumbing, boiler, mechanical and electrical trades.

Ability to operate hand and power tools and equipment, such as circular saws, reciprocating saws, power drill/drivers, grinders, cutting tools, bladed instruments, hand tools related to mechanical, plumbing, and electrical repairs.

The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb, stoop, and squat, ascend and descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Kneeling ability: sufficient to bend legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.

Employee must be able to physically access all exterior and interior parts of the property and amenities and must be able to work inside and outside in all weather conditions including, but not limited to rain, snow, heat, hail, wind, and sleet.

The Maintenance Tech/Engineer will perform work primarily indoors. The work environment is well lighted, clean, and suitable to tasks performed by the employee within temperature control standards that govern a skilled care facility.
