Live It Learn It is Hiring a Part-Time LILI Educator Near Washington, DC

Live It Learn It (LILI) is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as part-time educators and to deliver high-quality programming, aimed at enriching the lives of the students we serve. LILI educators are primarily responsible for leading LILI’s programs that consist of a three-part learning model - a focused preparation, an immersive field experience, and a guided reflection - to ensure that students get the most out of each program. This position offers a unique opportunity to enrich the lives of DC public school students while gaining valuable experience in education and program delivery. Start Date: July 2024, rolling

Core Responsibilities of the Position: Commitment to delivering quality educational experiences to students in grades 3 - 5, both in classrooms at DC public schools and onsite at museums across the city. This includes:

  • Facilitating pre-lesson and post-lesson activities in the classroom.
  • Leading student field trips to cultural institutions located in the city.
  • Providing on-the-spot modifications to program delivery to enhance inclusion and accessibility.
  • Conducting evaluation activities, including teacher and student surveys.
  • Reviewing schedules and curricula ahead of program days.
  • Employing student-centered, inquiry-based, culturally responsive teaching approaches.
  • Engage in training sessions, shadowing, practice lessons, feedback cycles, and other professional development to learn programming and improve programming delivery.
  • Collaborate and communicate with the Manager of Programming, teachers and partner destination staff to ensure high quality program delivery.

Requirements

  • Must be able to successfully complete the DCPS Background Check.
  • Ability to travel to various schools and destination sites in the DC area, familiarity with public transportation a plus.
  • Availability to work between the hours of 8:30AM and 3:00PM ET, at least 3 days per week with Tuesday - Friday strongly preferred.
  • Consistent schedule each week - each program requires a commitment of 6 hours per class with most schools having 2-3 classes per grade level. Preference given to candidates with the ability to work the same hours each day.
  • Must be able to ride on a school bus for about 30 minutes at a time, stand for extended periods of time (~2.5 hours), able to walk long distances and navigate museums, and be capable of carrying programming materials weighing up to ~15 pounds.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with young people ages 8 and up in formal and/or informal education settings, including but not limited to schools, community organizations, or extracurricular programs.
  • Course work and/or a bachelor’s degree in education, the arts, museum studies, or related field. However, we also recognize the value of professional experience in lieu of formal education.

  • Highly dependable, punctual, flexible, creative, and energetic.
  • Ability to speak, write, and deliver content in Spanish is a highly valuable PLUS.

Salary Range

  • Compensation is based on experience, and starts at $25.00 per hour
