How This Role Impacts Live Oak and its People
This role resides within accounting with the key objective being to manage Live Oak's compliance with Sarbanes Oxley 404 (SOX) and FDICIA programs, the overall finance risk agenda, and assist with IT-related special projects. SOX is a significant regulatory requirement and complementary to management's objective to ensure complete and accurate financial statements. SOX and FIDICA require management to document, assess, and make representations about the effectiveness of its internal control structure surrounding financial reporting. Participation in this effort requires an understanding of IT General and Application controls, internal control activities, interpretation of the regulation, and coordination of activities across the organization.
What You'll Do at Live Oak
  • Work closely with Risk and various control-owning teams across the Company to ensure seamless integration between risk, IT, and ICFR in order to identify, document, and assess key SOX controls across the Company.
  • Acts as a primary ICFR voice in collaboration with Risk on all new products and initiatives.
  • Build and maintain close relationships with control owners to:
    • ensure a deep understanding of the design and implementation of controls and processes,
    • institute proper controls and remediation strategies,
    • guide in sufficient support to evidence control performance based upon auditor requests, and
    • assist in recommended remediation actions
  • Collaborate with Risk, Internal Audit and IT to select and implement a comprehensive control process optimization system to increase efficiency and compliance rates.
  • Partner with internal audit to develop SOX testing quality review procedures, provide appropriate oversight, and monitor overall SOX testing quality, timelines, and review methodologies consistent with the Company's policies and procedures, and in coordination with external audit.
  • Review and approve the development and rollout of scoping methodology, testing strategy, and integrated SOX and ICFR risk framework.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to management, determine root causes, obtain management's action plan for remediation in a timely manner, and monitor and report on findings status through resolution.
  • Maintain the Company's SOX compliance policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
How You'll Do It
  • Technical Proficiency in SOX Compliance: Deep technical understanding and ability to disseminate, implement, and stay abreast of SOX compliance rules and best practices.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including Risk, Internal Audit, IT, Control Owners, and External Audit to address SOX matters. Able to articulate internal control-related matters for control owners to be able to ensure effective operation of controls.
  • Leadership and Mentorship: Provide strong thought leadership by setting clear expectations, goals, and performance standards for the control owners. Act as a mentor, guiding team members in their professional development and career growth. Foster a culture of teamwork and collaboration and encourage the sharing of knowledge and best practices among team members, Risk and Internal Audit.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements in accounting and financial reporting. Drive initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of financial reporting and related ICFR processes
Required and Preferred Experience
  • 5 years of experience working and leading SOX control initiatives, experience with financial institutions highly preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of control implementation based on SOX requirements, experience with SOX compliance software preferred
  • Experience with internal controls including control design, development of process flows, and remediation of gaps
  • Ability to assist with documentation of controls to support SOX compliance audits
  • Demonstrated knowledge of internal control frameworks and concepts (COSO)
  • Proven understanding of SOX control identification, testing methodologies, and processes
  • CISA, CPA or CIA professional certification preferred
  • Experience working in a fast-paced technology environment is preferred
  • Must be organized, resourceful, detail-oriented, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills with various levels of management
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, time management, and computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) required
  • Proactive in project planning and execution, able to meet precise deadlines with a quality product, required
  • Must have a positive attitude and promote a culture of collaboration and teamwork
  • Must be a self-starter, a team player, flexible, and able to work on several projects simultaneously

The base pay range for this position is $110,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year. Compensation may also include annual bonuses and long-term incentives, subject to various metrics and company policy. A candidate's salary is determined by several factors including travel, relevant work experience or skills and expertise.
