Position Summary
The Manager, Transportation Operations is responsible for developing, planning, prioritizing all inbound port and ground product dispatch operations, monitoring all ocean import shipments to ensure timely clearance and delivery of imported cargo. Will oversee and manage partnerships with third party ocean carriers. Will monitor, and ensure compliance related to data integrity, troubleshooting, systems maintenance, quality/usage audits, DOT - UIIA Compliance and carrier performance, rigorous daily, weekly, and monthly reporting. Leads, trains, and schedules the team to ensure an efficient and profitable operation.
Position Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Ensure efficient and effective operations while meeting customer demands and company goals.
  • Monitor logistic partner performance metrics against KPIs, established SOPs and service level agreements, in collaboration with operational stakeholders.
  • Develop a best-in-class team and workplace culture and effectively manage performance and talent development.
  • Evaluate ocean in-bound and drayage operational processes to gain efficiencies, identify areas that require improvement. Collaborate with leaders to implement necessary changes.
  • Drive the development and implementation of the Drayage Dispatch processes that are utilized uniformly across the drayage division, appointment setting, and dispatching.
  • Provides daily and weekly performance/KPI data reports.
  • Partner with leadership to develop training program and standard operating practices for the department.
  • Assist with managing and coordinating project plans, training and systems activities, and continuous improvement for existing fleets.
  • Work with leaders to ensure drivers are using the mobile application for track & trace, driver's logs as well as uploading of load-related documents.
  • Continuously improve operational processes to gain efficiencies and reduce issues.
  • Develop and manage carrier performance. Assess concerns and escalations.
  • Develop international operations strategies. Interact with terminals, ports, and drivers to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
  • Manage processes to ensure drivers meet on-time requirements and efficiency levels - meet company minimum on-time performance levels.
  • Partner with product teams on inventory allocations, vendor communications, product changes, etc.
  • Manage negotiations for international transportation agreements including ocean service contracts, air freight forwarding, vendor management services, and drayage services.
  • Monitor and manage budgets, expenses, and revenue for transportation operations.
  • Analyze trends, business growth projections, and operational demands to create comprehensive budget model for the department.
  • Oversee the daily work schedule and processes by reviewing existing work queues, emails and instructions from both internal and external customers dealing with ground operations as related to the port activity.
  • Communicate and ensure status updates are maintained as needed in the system and to/from operations teams.
  • Train new staff in assigned duties, or delegate training responsibility to other experienced staff.
  • Conduct regular meetings with team to assess group's overall status; discuss ideas for improvement and inform staff of new developments.
  • Assist with goals to eliminate as much risk (cost exposure) as possible (i.e. Reduce detention, storage and wait time charges).
  • Partners with the Manager, Safety & Compliance on DOT, OSHA, CHP, EPA, & DNR Safety and Compliance.
Qualifications
Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree (B. A. or B. S.) or equivalent from four-year college in Logistics, Supply Chain Solutions, or related field. Minimum 7 years of experience in all facets of drayage and ocean operations including inbound and outbound drayage and port dispatch operations. 5 years of experience with overseeing multiple harbor drayage operations. Strong experience dealing with harbor/port drayage regulations. Minimum 5 years of managing drayage dispatch operations and drivers. Strong knowledge of the operational requirements of all existing accounts. Knowledge of all Ocean and Inland ports in North America. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have experience in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Strong proficiencies with AX Dynamics, DrayDog, PortPro, E2Open & Project 44 is required.
Certificates and Licenses: Completion of the LDP Program is preferred.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position will manage the dispatch operations and the driver team members. Develop and execute the company's business strategies in order to attain the goals of the board and shareholders. Provide strategic advice so direct reports will have accurate view of the market and the company's future. Prepare and implement comprehensive business plans to facilitate. Ensure company policies and legal guidelines are communicated all the way from the top down in the company and that they are followed at all times. Communicate and maintain trust relationships with shareholders, business partners, and authorities. Able to delegate responsibilities and supervise the work of direct reports providing guidance and motivation to drive maximum performance.
Position Hiring Range
The hiring pay range provides a guide for what we would reasonably pay for the position. Pay will be determined by several factors, including but not limited to: applicant's education, relevant work experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with geographic market data. Living Spaces reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time. Pay is determined by various factors including market demand, applicable skills, work experience and education, location, company budget, and in-demand skill sets.
Compensation: $103,125.00 - $137,500.00
Retail, Guest Services, and Distribution Center Team Members are eligible to receive team bonus based on meeting specific goals and KPI's.
