Lloyd Companies is Hiring a Lumber Yard Support Technician Near Sioux Falls, SD

POSITION SUMMARY

This individual will provide administrative and sales support to the Engineered Building Supply team. This person will also serve as a back-up CDL driver, driving and delivering within a 5-hour radius, as needed. The Support Technician will assist the team in pulling orders, loading and unloading trucks, and keeping the lumber yard organized. This person should have exceptional administrative and interpersonal skills. This individual shall perform job functions in collaboration with the lumber yard and construction teams as well as external clients.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the development of SOPS; refining and organizing departmental procedures, SOPs, and forms while educating the team on changes as they occur.
  • Transport building and construction material to and from construction sites within a 5-hour radius.
  • Load and unload the delivery truck.
  • Inspect vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues; perform preventative maintenance.
  • Receive and evaluate quotes for applicable scopes and alignment with bid documents.
  • Continually develop and maintain relationships with client and vendor base and assist in maintaining contact and relationship records of those clients and vendors.
  • Assist the team in communicating and building relationships with vendors.
  • Maintain the lumberyard, ensuring the yard is clear of obstructions and organized at all times.
  • Read and interpret work orders (typed, handwritten, electronic).
  • Assist with routine cleaning of equipment and work area, this may include snow removal.
  • Report any equipment and product deficiencies.
  • Assist in the creation of proposals for simple Request for Proposal offerings.
  • Collaborate with customers to accurately draft/review/present project schedules.
  • Collaborate with the customers to fulfill project goals by negotiating/awarding projects to vendors (demonstrating proficient creativity, conflict resolution, and negotiating abilities).
  • Assist the EBS team and coordinate with customers on submittals and purchase orders for upcoming jobs.
  • Order in special order merchandise for upcoming jobs.
  • Partner with Superintendents to ship material when needed.
  • Distribute and invoice material to jobs.
  • Review vendor invoices against purchase orders.
  • Assist with the implementation and maintenance of P.O.S. system.
  • Process sales and purchasing paperwork.
  • Collaborate with vendors to continually learn more and cultivate long term relationships.
  • Work at a high level and operate under a deadline driven environment.
  • Assist Lumber Yard associates, in the office and field, as needed.
  • Assist with various projects throughout the division as assigned by leaders.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining a positive, rewarding work environment.
  • Perform all other duties assigned and those that may be necessary to achieve company and departmental goals.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Proven working experience in a lumber yard.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • Networking ability and demonstrated ability to establish and build client relationships.
  • High level of attention to detail and cost analysis.
  • Above average ability to read & interpret blueprints and specifications.
  • Proficient use of computer and estimating software.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Must communicate well (written, verbal, and electronically) with clients, all levels of company staff, subcontracted vendors, and design professionals.
  • Flexibility, winning spirit/attitude, tolerance for change.
  • Exceptional knowledge of building products, construction details and relevant rules, regulations and quality standards.
  • True desire to complete a project with conscious care, commitment and concentration.
  • Stress Management.
  • Ability to work well with diverse groups or individuals.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Current Medical DOT Health Card.
  • Valid CDL Class A
  • Regular and consistent attendance.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

2-3 years of successful experience in a lumber yard; strong working knowledge of office procedures; ability to effectively use and maintain office equipment.

At least six months of OTR experience preferred.

Nice to Have: Associate’s degree.
