Reports To: Director of Plant Finance
Job Title: Plant Controller
Location: Lansing, MI (on-site)
Industry: Defense
Summary The Plant Controller position works with plant and financial management to effectively manage the finances and operations of the plant. This role will lead the financial staff at the plant and is accountable for all financial related plant-level responsibilities. This position will also work with the CFO on various companywide objectives on an as needed basis.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)
  • Prepare monthly reports of results, monthly financial and cash flow forecasts, annual operating plan, and strategic planning.
  • Analyze and accurately report current month’s financial results in accordance with corporate format and time requirements.
  • Work with Materials team to ensure accuracy of the physical inventory and reported results. Investigate and explain large or uncommon adjustments.
  • Ensure bill of material and costing accurately reflect production operations on a continual basis.
  • Manages Defense contract compliance and monthly progress billings
  • Review labor reporting and cost, material costs, manufacturing overhead, distribution cost, returns and inventory levels.
  • Analyze potential excess and obsolete inventory items monthly.
  • Reconcile inter-company and Balance Sheet accounts monthly.
  • Analyze internal controls to ensure assets are adequately safeguarded and results are accurately reported.
  • Assure adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Policies. Resolve questions of GAAP and internal controls with the financial leadership.
  • Directs and assists in the completion of special projects, as needed.
  • Attend regular plant production meetings.
  • Perform daily walkthroughs of the plant. 
Requirements:
  • Experience: 3-5 years relevant experience as a plant controller, assistant controller or other relevant work experience. Defense contracts experience desired, but not required
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and ERP systems, (Plex desired, but not required) and a solid understanding of US GAAP.
  • Attributes: Self-starter, with excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Superior attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.

Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills - Significant experience and skillset in Microsoft office is required. A high proficiency in data manipulation in Microsoft Excel is also required. 
Adherence to Policy - Follow quality environmental policies and have knowledge of AS9100 and IS14001.
Adherence to Safety - Follow safety procedures, security protocol, and wear proper PPE.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
