Longshoreman / Labor Responsibilities

The Longshoreman (General Laborer) is responsible for the loading, unloading, moving or handling of cargo; (container, bulk, breakbulk, shipping containers, oil barrels, gear, or any other materials / cargo) into, in, on, or out of any vessel and/or train in a responsible, safe and efficient manner. The Longshoreman may perform other duties as instructed and/or assigned by the Gang Foreman.

• Reports to Gang Foreman.
• Prior Longshoreman experience preferred.
• Works outside on terminal.
• Communicates verbally or uses hand signals.
• May instruct Yard Hustler Drivers on specific location to line up Yard Hustler in order for the crane to be able to load or offload the container.
• May be required to communicate via hand held radio.
• May be required to handle tools and/or lashing materials .
• May engage and disengage automatic locks (15-20 lbs.) which are set in between the containers to hold in place during transport and place in gearbox.
• May be required to place or remove dunnage including but not limited to under blades, buckets, or other attachments that would rest on transport surface.
• Must remain clear of moving tracks and attached equipment.
• May use push broom to sweep discarded materials to designated area.
• May place ISO fittings.
• May be required to hook and unhook lifting gear.

30K Forklift Operator Responsibilities

This position operates a large forklift machine no less than 30k for all operations. Employee is required to have a valid TWIC Card, and be proficient in the safe handling and transfer of general cargo, all varieties of pipe, rebar and other steel products and containers in the terminal, on and off trailers, in and out of vans, railcars and containers. (Must be able to roll pipe)

• Demonstrates competency operating 30K forklift with 2 years’ experience that includes:
• Safe handling of all commodities
• Operating with diverse attachments to handle different commodities.
• Operating machine in a vessel, barge, and terminal or on the dock.
• Proper mounting/dismounting of machine while maintaining three points of contact.
• Proper startup and shutdown of forklift (seatbelt, neutral when starting/stopping, lowers forklift
  
  

blades to ground and sets brake when parking).

• Proper use of controls (clutch, inching, tilt, lift, attachments, steering).
• Proper stacking of load (approaches load squarely, stacks straight and squarely, and to safe height,
  
  

deposits load safely, does not move until forks are level and lowered).

• Proper loading /unloading a trailer or van/railcar/container/other (checks the dock plate, condition of
  
  

the floor/deck, trailer chocks, jack stands, and brakes if applicable, and maneuvers safely in tight

quarters).

• Ensures truck drive is outside of cab and visible to operator before loading or unloading
• Checks equipment in accordance to forklift checklist procedures to ensure it is properly maintained and is
  
  

safe to operate.

• Communicates any issues with machine to supervisor or maintenance
• Follows proper procedures for an “unattended” machine.
• Ensures machine is operated within safe working load limits at all times
• Follows all company safety requirements/policies.
• Understands and complies with Company “Stop Work Authority” policy
• Maintains awareness of all surroundings (i.e. vehicles, people, traffic, debris or obstructions, etc.) at all times.
• Reviews all shipments upon arrival and inform supervisor immediately of any damages to cargo.
• Ensures that cargo is loaded in appropriate container or trailer for shipment as directed.
• Performs additional related duties as assigned which may or may not include operating a forklift.

Checker Responsibilities

This position interfaces directly with the customer and is responsible for processing cargo bookings or import/export documentation within established deadlines and regulatory requirements. Receives, reconciles, consolidates and/or summarize documents and information from customers.

• Ensure that all documentation is submitted timely, as required
• Check documents, make necessary corrections, and distribute them to corresponding customers to meet their respective deadlines
• Collects Bills of Ladings for all assigned customers; check the information on all documentation for accuracy and disseminates for processing
• Inform all customers of cargo arrivals/departures, via email/fax with an arrival/departure notice and a copy of the bill of lading. Securing confirmation and file in the master file
• Secure original bills of lading properly endorsed, and delivery orders
• Check that cargo is properly released
• Coordinate and enter all data into the Stevedore Terminal Management System (STMS)
• Heavy phone communications answering any questions and informing customers of situations
• Performs other related duties as assigned

Winchman Responsibilities: (Ship Crane Operator)

The Winchmen are responsible for operating the ship's gear crane equipment for the loading and discharge of cargo and containers into and from the vessel within the General Cargo Vessel Stevedoring Department.

• Perform all functions in accordance with operation and safety
• Inspect all equipment before use to ensure is safe to
• Report any gear found to be unsafe to the Vessel Superintendent, Walking and/or Gang
• Operate Ship's Gear Crane, carrying a high volume of production, loading and unloading cargo, and containers in a safe and efficient manner, without the risk of damaging or harming the crane, equipment, cargo, vessel, wharf, and
• Conduct and follow crane hand signals with flagman when performing the loading and discharge of cargo and containers.
• Maintain communication with personnel throughout operation in accordance with cargo handling
• Inform supervisor immediately if detect any damages and/or spoiled cargo before loading or
• Maintain a clean work area, free of debris or safety hazards and awareness of surroundings (i.e. vehicles, people checking equipment, ) at all times.
• Perform other assigned duties as assigned.
