Job Summary: The Sonographer Lead performs general sonographic procedures in accordance with department protocols. Oversees daily workflow and responsibilities of department. Establishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with students, co-workers, Manager and Director, Radiologists, referring Physicians. Meets with customers and partners to assure service levels are maintained (rounding). Participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. Adheres to the Loma Linda University Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: Graduate of a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited ultrasound program or a graduate from a Diagnostic Medical Sonography program required. Associate's Degree in Science preferred. Minimum of three years of hospital experience required. Minimum one year high-risk Obstetrical experience preferred.
Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge in Abdomen, Abdominal Doppler, OB/GYN, Small Parts, and Interventional Sonographic Procedures. Able to: read; write legibly; speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment. Relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead and collaborate; accept direction. Think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place/patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.
Licensures and Certifications: Current American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification required. Additional registries (Abdomen, Breast, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Neuro, or Vascular) must be obtained within six months of hire. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required.
