The Long Beach Community College District is seeking highly-qualified individuals for current opportunity as a Skilled Maintenance Worker. The incumbent is responsible of performing a wide variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the construction, alteration, maintenance and repair of District buildings, facilities and equipment; performs sub-journey level work in several building trades areas and assists journey level trades personnel as required; and performs related duties as assigned. We are looking for someone who has a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent; and three (3) years of building maintenance and construction experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. f this describes you, we encourage you to apply for the opportunity to join the innovative and talented LBCC team!
AT-A-GLANCE POSITION INFORMATION
  • Type of position: Full time (40 hours/week)
  • Position Status: Permanent
  • Schedule: M-F 7:30am to 4pm
  • Location: Will support both campuses, but could be located at either the Liberal Arts Campus (LAC) or Pacific Coast Campus (PCC)
  • Salary: Range 27 $4,716.52 - $5,802.25 Monthly
  • Eligibility list: Will be valid for 12 months once approved or ratified by the Personnel Commission. We reserve the right to use the established eligibility list for vacancies (permanent and temporary) in this classification as well as related classifications.
  • Advanced salary placement: Generally, new employees start at the first step on the salary schedule. Advanced salary placement may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Duties
GENERAL PURPOSE

QualificationsQualification Section
Education, Training And ExperienceGraduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent; and three (3) years of building maintenance and construction experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
May require a valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance policy.
Minimum Qualifications For This PositionMeeting the minimum requirements of the position does not guarantee advancement in the selection process. Candidate qualifications will be assessed to determine those who meet and exceed requirements, and are deemed most competitive amongst the applicant pool to proceed.

  • If you participate in and fail any examination segment, you must wait a period of 90 days (~3 months) to test again for the same classification.
Selection Process
The following examination segments are pass/fail and may be utilized during the selection process:
  • screening of the applicant's training, background, and experience
  • scored evaluation of responses on a supplemental application/ subject matter expert (SME) review. * Please answer each question thoroughly as they will be read and scored by SMEs*
  • in-person or online:
  • written examination(s)
  • qualifications appraisal oral examination
  • performance examination
  • technical oral examination
(the above will be scored on a job-related basis)
Test parts are determined by the size and competitiveness of the candidate pool.
Only the most highly qualified candidates will be invited to continue in the examination process. Successful candidates who pass all parts of the examination process will be placed on the eligibility list in order of their relative merit as determined by these competitive examinations.
  • PLEASE NOTE: The District reserves the right to utilize a flexible pass point (cut-off score) on any test part to meet the staffing needs as determined by the District. Applicants that most closely meet the needs of the District will proceed with the recruitment process. *
