Position: Chef

Lorimar Cafe and Wine Bar is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chef to lead our kitchen team. As the Chef, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the high standards of our kitchen, ensuring smooth operations, and fostering a positive team environment. This position requires a minimum of 3 years of experience as a chef leading a kitchen in a restaurant setting. This role requires availability in the mornings and on the weekends.

Responsibilities:

Culinary Leadership:

  • Develop and design innovative and seasonal menus
  • Oversee food preparation, ensuring dishes meet our high-quality standards
  • Maintain culinary consistency and excellence in all dishes served

Kitchen Management:

  • Delegate tasks efficiently to kitchen staff
  • Train, mentor, and develop new and existing kitchen staff
  • Ensure a safe, organized, and sanitary work environment
  • Manage kitchen schedules and oversee the ordering and inventory of supplies

Time Management and Team Coordination:

  • Prioritize and manage tasks to ensure timely preparation and delivery of dishes, meeting customer wait time expectations
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with the kitchen team, coordinating orders and ensuring smooth kitchen operations
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment, promoting teamwork and efficiency

Food Quality and Cost Control:

  • Ensure all food is prepared according to health and safety regulations
  • Develop and manage budgets for ingredients, monitoring inventory and controlling costs
  • Implement waste reduction and cost-saving measures without compromising quality

Food Preparation and Cooking:

  • Prepare ingredients according to recipes, including chopping vegetables, portioning proteins, and mixing sauces
  • Cook dishes to order, adhering to recipes and maintaining consistent quality and taste standards
  • Plate dishes attractively and efficiently, ensuring visual and culinary excellence

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a chef leading a kitchen in a restaurant
  • Strong understanding of cooking best practices, techniques, and kitchen equipment
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Keen attention to detail with a commitment to quality and consistency
  • Strong work ethic with a willingness to learn and follow instructions
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and perform repetitive tasks
  • Strict adherence to all safety and sanitation protocols
