Compassion Week is a week of service hosted by Los Altos United Methodist Church and other community partner organizations, which offers 120 service opportunities and draws over 3,500 volunteers from communities across Silicon Valley. Compassion Week provides service and social justice opportunities that enable individuals and families to build a stronger, more inclusive, and more empathetic community by expanding community members’ understanding of and engagement with local and global needs.

The Compassion Week project coordinator oversees the tactical and logistical details of the 120 service opportunities, working closely with the Compassion Week Planning Team, staff at partner organizations, and Compassion Week project leaders.

Job Schedule:

May– October: 25-30 hours per week

Rest of year: 15-20 hours per week

Key Responsibilities:

• Identify & develop growth opportunities through partnerships to expand the footprint and presence of CW in the broader Silicon Valley community.
• Lead the planning team to plan, develop, and implement overarching objectives and execution strategies.
• Ensure that all projects support the objectives of the week of service and that the event is measured against agreed upon metrics.
• Work closely with existing CW partners to meet their needs and enable them to be fully engaged/involved.
• Collaborate with LAUMC stakeholders to ensure that CW supports the Church’s vision and mission.
• Advise and provide leadership as necessary for sub-teams working in specific areas of marketing, financial management, volunteer recruitment, registration, facilities, etc.
• Interact with agencies and organizations supported by CW volunteers.
• Ensure that budgets are in-line with strategy and work with the Finance Department to ensure all billings and invoices are executed in a timely fashion.
• Manage the activities of the Compassion Week Coordinator to ensure tactics are being executed in a timely manner.
• Collaborate with partners to maximize marketing and publicity both before and after CW.

Experience:

• Demonstrated experience in running multifaceted events.
• Proven track record in working with non-profits and service organizations that provide volunteers.
• Excellent meeting management and communications skills.
• As this weeklong event touches many people and faith communities, a respect and appreciation for the underserved and for the volunteers who are a range of people representing all age groups and faith traditions.

Core Competencies:

• Strong computer skills especially in Google Suite, including Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides.
• Strong written, verbal & presentation communication skills.
• Ability to learn computer systems & applications quickly.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $33.00 - $35.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15 – 30 per week
