Department: Health Services

Reports To: Acupuncture Manager

Compensation: $48.77-$56.54 per hour 

Status: Part-Time, 50%

Probation: 180 days

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Los Angeles LGBT Center’s (Center) Department of Health Services is one of the nation’s largest and most experienced providers of LGBTQ-specialized primary care and related services. Our mission to help LGBTQIA people lead healthier, happier lives is supported by our comprehensive array of client-centered services including primary care, mental health, psychiatry, sexual health, pharmacy, case management, nutrition, clinical research, housing services and a food pantry. The Center is one of a handful of Federally Qualified Health Centers in the nation specializing in serving LGBTQIA people.

JOB SUMMARY: In this role, the Acupuncturist will provide acupuncture services to existing primary care patients at the Center through in-house referrals. The Acupuncturist will perform office-based treatments consistent with existing guidelines and evidence-based practices, and in compliance with payor requirements. The Acupuncturist must have expertise providing care to people across the gender spectrum and with diverse physical presentations and chronic medical conditions, including people living with HIV. The goal of the program is to create lasting change in the health and lives of low-income and underserved LGBTQ people through provision of high quality, trauma-informed, body-positive acupuncture services. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

•Provides high-quality, evidence-based, trauma-informed acupuncture care.

•Conducts clinical encounters with new and returning patients that includes taking a thorough history, TCM diagnostics, performing acupuncture or electroacupuncture, and appropriate documentation and billing in the electronic health record (EHR). 

•Follows internal policies and protocols regarding the provision of clinical care and EHR documentation standards.

•Communicates regularly with primary care providers regarding patient outcomes and care plans. 

•Conducts patient communication as needed via phone or patient portal. 

•Provides patient education about diagnoses, as required. 

•Completes patient forms and letters in a timely manner. 

• Continually develops and maintains clinical expertise in relevant fields of clinical care. 

•Participates in peer review exercises and completes mandatory clinical trainings. 

•Assures a positive patient experience and clinical care. 

•Participates in routine meetings with supervisor. 

•Other duties as assigned. 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

•Experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of relevance to LGBTQ people.

•A passion for the Center’s work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people.

•Knowledge and understanding of the intersectional issues affecting LGBTQ people with demonstrated expertise and passion for working with Black and Latinx people. 

• Master’s degree from an accredited acupuncture school.

•Minimum 2 years clinical experience preferred Experience treating psychological and musculoskeletal conditions.

•Well versed in Western medical terminology and diagnosis.

•Commitment to practicing within a trauma-informed, body-and-sex positive, and harm reductive framework. 

•Comfortable communicating about treatment plans and managing patient expectations. 

•Ability to maintain a full patient schedule.

•Unrestricted license to practice Acupuncture in the State of California. 

•Eligibility for malpractice coverage.

•Current BLS certification.

•Demonstrated expertise and passion for working with underserved and medically mistrustful patients. 

•Bilingual skills, a plus (English/Spanish fluency preferred). 

•Good verbal and written communication skills, including strong organizational, detail, interpersonal and relationship building skills.

•Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.
