Loudoun County Public Schools is Hiring a Coordinator, Head Start Mental Health Near Ashburn, VA
Job OverviewThe LCPS Head Start Mental Health and Family Support Coordinator is responsible for coordinating mental health and other comprehensive services for Head Start children and families to include providing parenting skills training, and behavioral support. This position serves as a member of the program’s Management Team. Roles And ResponsibilitiesThe following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; work may differ, and other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate.
Work collaboratively with Head Start families and staff to meet the mental health needs of all enrolled students and families
Provide ongoing family support to promote family well-being
Provide mental health case management services for families in the form of referrals to appropriate community agencies
Build partnerships with community agencies to further assist families with referrals to the proper resource(s)
Coordinate the Head Start Multidisciplinary Mental Health Team and collaborate with a licensed Mental Health Consultant
Provide enrolled families with support of parenting topics
Provide support and consultation to staff regarding Child Protective Services mandated reporting
Work collaboratively with the Head Start and STEP Supervisor, Education Coordinator, Education Staff, and Head Start families to address challenging behaviors in the classroom
Provide professional development for staff regarding mental health and wellness topics
Work collaboratively with the Education Coordinator to provide training and support for staff on the implementation of Conscious Discipline®
Participate as a member of the LCPS Head Start Disabilities Committee and support teachers working with children going through the Special Education process
Assist in the recruitment and enrollment of eligible children
Other duties as assigned
QualificationsBelow are the minimum qualifications for this job. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are also acceptable.Education
Degree in psychology, social work, or related field from an accredited school (Master’s preferred)
Experience
Experience and expertise in working with children and families.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Ability to work independently, to review and interpret regulations relating to the Head Start program, and to take appropriate actions to ensure successful completion of projects promptly and accurately
Good organizational, human relations and communication skills
Ability to work well with a variety of professionals, agencies, and institutions
Bilingual Spanish preferred
