Loudoun County Public Schools is Hiring a Special Education Dean & Teacher, Distance Learning Near Ashburn, VA

Job Description

The Special Education Dean works to ensure the provision of a Free Appropriate Public Education for all students in accordance with all State and Federal Guidelines. The Special Education teacher supports instruction (in collaboration) with general education teacher, assesses and evaluates student achievement, and modifies instructional activities, as required.

Responsibilities - Dean

The responsibilities of the Dean include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure compliance with State and Federal Regulations as they apply to students with disabilities in the public-school setting.
  • Supervise IEP development, reviews and revisions, and provision of services in the least restrictive environment to ensure FAPE.
  • Serve as the designee for IEP meetings as assigned by the building administrator.
  • Oversee and support the progress of students through the monitoring of specialized programs and services to ensure fidelity of implementation, data collection, analysis and reporting.
  • Coordinate services and provisions for children with disabilities who transfer between schools in Virginia or from a Local Education Agency outside of Virginia
  • Develop and maintain a positive communication system with the community, staff, administration and the School Board Office.
  • Maintains up-to-date data in Virginia IEP System to include case management assignments, document management and finalizing special education documents.
  • Provide professional learning to special education staff and faculty.
  • Monitor the implementation of specialized instruction through observations and data analysis.
  • Attend Monthly Designee/Dean Meetings and all required trainings
  • Perform related work as required.

Responsibilities - Teacher

  • Continually assess student achievement and maintain appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation for institutional and individual reporting purposes
  • Plan and implement appropriate instructional and/or learning strategies and activities, including determination of appropriate kind and level of materials, provide appropriate learning experiences, manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement, and utilize a variety of instructional materials and available multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning
  • Manage the behavior of learners in an instructional setting to ensure that the environment is conducive to the learning process, and assist and participate in management of student behavior in all parts of the Program
  • Coordinate instructional activities with other professional staff, both school and nonschool-based, as required, to maximize learning opportunities
  • Participate in in-service and professional development activities and staff meetings, as required or assigned
  • Continually communicate with students on instructional expectations to keep them informed of their progress in meeting those expectations
  • Communicate with parents through conferences
  • Collaborate with other professionals (school counselors, Special Education case manager, home school Special Education Designee, librarians, etc.) to carry out schoolwide instructional or related activities as needed
  • Case Management

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree and endorsement in special education; administrative endorsement or special education leadership certificate preferred.
  • Holds or is eligible for a Virginia teaching license, with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision PreK-12
  • Has successful experience as a special education teacher, administrator, or supervisor.
  • Possesses leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and community.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of State and Federal Regulations Governing Students with Disabilities.
  • Knowledge of specialized instruction.
  • Knowledge and experience with school-wide systems to support inclusive practices.
  • Knowledge and experience implementing and analyzing the effectiveness of evidence-based behavior interventions and supports.

Candidate must live within a commutable distance to Loudoun County Public Schools.

The Dean shall report to the Supervisor of Virtual Loudoun. (In collaboration with the Special Education Office)
