ABOUT THE ROLE

The Educational/Student Support Aide is a part time position during the school year and will report to the Behavior Interventionist. The Educational/Student Support Aide will work alongside teachers and students to spark learning and encourage confidence and investment in our students' sense of community, command of emotional expression and regulation, the accessibility and application of academic strategies, and social skills development.

RESPONSIBILITES

  • · Provide direct supervision of students during structured indoor/outdoor play (recess).
  • · Guide and monitor students' engagement and use of regulation, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills during lessons by leading quality small groups of up to six students utilizing provided lessons to improve students’ social development and relational problem-solving skills.
  • · Aide teachers in delivering identified behavioral intervention strategies to students within the classroom setting.
  • · Guide students through short integrative sensory motor exercises as targeted by the results of the student’s assessment and outlined in progression by the schools behavioral interventionist
  • · As teacher directed, administer components of the classroom lessons when working individually or leading small groups of students identified for specialized intervention.
  • · As guided, provide individualized support consistent with the intent of the student's monitored in school plan (MIP). Ensure alignment and fidelity with each student’s established goals and objectives in accordance with specific timelines set for data review.
  • · Maintain clear and professional communication with the behavioral interventionist and classroom teachers regarding overall progress and/or interventions needed.
  • · Complete accurate and timely documentation regarding student’s behavior as outlined by school procedures; reporting observations to relevant staff and collaborating based on those observations.
  • · Assist in review and preparation of other behavioral reports and daily activity logs as required.
  • · Maintain confidentiality of student information and records at all times.
  • · Participate in weekly team meetings for planning and division of workload.
  • · Attend school meetings, student/parent meetings and individual student advisory meetings as requested and required.
  • · Respond constructively to formal and informal feedback from teaching and administrative staff.
  • · Performing other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience working in an educational setting or direct care role with children and youth.
  • CPR & First Aid certified.
  • Degree or certified training in education, special education, behavioral health field, or similarly aligned tract of study (ex. occupational therapy, behavioral intervention, neuro-child development, cognitive or sensory motor coaching)
  • Experience in working with populations who have experienced a variety of trauma and loss and ability to exercise compassion.
  • Experience working with diverse learners and familiarity with differentiating for a range of learner needs.
  • Work history of professionalism, work ethic, boundaries, proficient and timely documentation, and calm direct demeanor when exercising crisis intervention skills with elementary and middle school grades.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn the Neuro sequential Model of Education (NME) approaches as a framework for working with student behavior.
  • Familiarity with the Social Thinking, Zones of Regulation, and or Conscious Discipline Curriculums a plus
  • Working knowledge of computer software applications such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of academic platforms such as google classrooms, Canva, and IXL a bonus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and communicate with both adults and children. The employee frequently is required to use hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. We are located in an old three-story building with no elevator. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
