Love Joy Adult Day Health Care Center is Hiring an Adult Day Care Direct Care Staff - OTJ Training Available Near Houston, TX

On the job training available to qualified interested applicants.

Responsibilities:

  • Promotes and incorporates Love and Joy’s mission into programs.
  • Supervises residents at all times to ensure their safety. Stays alert to resident’s needs and/or problems as individuals and as a group.
  • Maintain order, safety, and cleanliness in the environment (environmental survey).
  • Assure safety evaluation. Assure safe evacuation of the facility in the event of an emergency.
  • · Assure that each individual receives the kind of amount of supervision and care required to meet his basic needs.
  • Overnight staff is to be awake and alert during overnight shift. Sleeping schedule for overnight staff is in the day time.
  • Do not leave resident unattended (to go to car, answer phone etc.) Be with the resident during entre shift.
  • Be on high alert. Check in with individuals every 15 minutes.
  • Inform incoming staff of any significant information that occurs.
  • Attends mandatory trainings and meetings.
  • Maintains professionalism.
  • Reports to work on time.
  • Reports to work wearing appropriate attire: black or red nursing scrubs, close toes shoes with rubber soles.
  • Hair should be worn in a neat and tidy fashion and be of a discrete and professional color and style. Hairnet must be worn when entering the kitchen and preparing meals. Hairnet is not provided by Love and Joy.
  • Tattoos should be discretely covered.
  • Document time according to hours worked on time sheet and turn in when due.
  • Provide organized activities during free time to enhance social skills, and emotional development. Engage in activities including but not limited to, listening to music, puzzles, and reading.
  • Schedule rides via Metro Lift for resident to and from day hab, doctors’ visits, church, and community outings.
  • · At the end of your shift, there must be someone physically present to relieve you of your shift. If there is no one physically present, remain on the job. Love and Joy will do our best efforts to find a replacement.
  • Ensures all needs of residents are being met, including but not limited to:

Physical Needs and Daily Living:

1. Hygiene: assure each resident maintains a clean appearance. Assist with oral care, face wash, shaving, hair grooming. Bathe patient daily. Ensure resident is dressed appropriately according to weather.

2. Medications: deal with one resident at a time. Provide medications as outlined on each individual’s orders. Make sure the medicine sheet matches orders, sign medication sheet daily. Black ink only.

3. Dietary: prepare and service meals that meet that daily nutritional and special dietary needs of each resident. Follow guidelines as provided in menu. Complete substitute forms when needed.

4. Laundry: complete laundry and iron individual’s clothing. Wash towels and linens.

5. Clean home daily.

Emotional Needs:

1. Acceptance, safety, support, trust. Sit and talk with resident to provide comfort. Encourage the use of social greetings and exchanges.

  • Ensures proper administrative procedures are followed and completed in black ink only. Including but not limited to:

A. Med sheets- assist with medicine daily

B. Service logs- daily

C. Residential goals- daily

D. BT plan- daily

E. Incident reports – as necessary

F. Sign in/out sheets for visitors- daily

G. Call logs- as necessary

Requirements:

  • Six months experience working with individuals diagnosed with intellectual and developmental disabilities/ as a care giver
  • Good communication skills
  • Tolerance for stress
  • HS Diploma (Bonus)
  • Any Degrees or Certifications (Bonus)
  • Must be able to deal effectively and responsibly with employees, persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families, the general public, and volunteers.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written material and demonstrate basic literacy skills
  • Must obtain and maintain valid CPR/First Aid certification- must obtain with 15 days of hire
  • Food Handling Permit- Must obtain within 45 days of hire
  • City of Houston Food Manager Certificate- Must obtain with 60 days of hire
  • TB Skin Test- Prior to orientation
  • Satisfactory results on background check -- Can be employed but cannot have conviction that is listed on the Barred Employment List (Website Below)
