LPVEC is growing and we are looking for immediate opening for a Special Education Teacher for the 2022-2023 school year. This position is full time working with our Twain Middle School program.Under the direction of the program supervisor and Director of Special Education, the Licensed Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities; evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives; follows Massachusetts’ mandated due process procedures and functions as IEP manager to assigned students. The following outline of the role and responsibilities is intended to provide a broad overview, but is subject to change according to the needs of LPVEC, as required by the Executive Director.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS•Provide academic instruction and behavior modification approaches in a highly structured, therapeutic day school setting. In a small class setting, the teacher will address the academic and emotional/behavior needs of the students set forth in their Individual Education Plan (IEP).•Plans and carries out Individual Educational Programs (IEPs) that meet student needs and conform to state and federal laws, including preparation of reports are accurate and on time, including IEP goals for annual meetings, report cards, and progress reports.•Provides services to assigned students so that the students may access the general curriculum consistent with Massachusetts state frameworks.•Accepts and assumes responsibility for development and implementation of annual goals and specific objectives to meet the needs of each individual student.•Establishes rapport and communicates collaboratively with other teachers, support staff, administration, parents and others.•Maintains accurate and complete records on each student, including but not limited to: educational progress, educational evaluation, attendance, communications with other professionals and parents.•Submits reports and records, as required by the Collaborative, sending school districts and/or state and/or federal laws and regulations, in a timely fashion, to the program supervisor, administrator, and special education office.•Establishes a structured classroom to ensure the safety and promote the educational progress of each student.•Anticipate and plan appropriate interventions to avoid student behavior issues, and use therapeutic restraints when deemed necessary.•Maintains a communication system with parents and other caregivers of students.•Promptly reports any changes in schedule, staff absences, and discipline incidents to the program supervisor.•Demonstrate a continued awareness and commitment to cultural diversity, religious and personal values, and traditions of persons served and their families in order to accomplish the mission of the organization.•Adheres to the LPVEC Personnel Policies and to the rules and regulations of the public-school building to which the teacher is assigned.•Performs other essential duties as determined by the Program Supervisor, Director of Special Education or Executive Director and which are designated as essential duties.•Organizes and supervises services of paraprofessional staff, related service providers and consultants in the classroom.•Participates in the evaluation of paraprofessional staff working in the classroom.•Facilitates the work of consultants in the classroom, and incorporates their recommendations into classroom activities.
