SUMMARY OF POSITION: Performs routine (journey-level) consultative services and technical assistance work. Work involves assisting with planning, developing, and implementing an agency program and providing consultative services and technical assistance to program staff, government agencies, community organizations, or the general public. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: Works with criminal justice and homeland security planning process. Coordinate with public safety/criminal justice, homeland security, and emergency management program activities.Provides consultative services and technical assistance to program staff, governmental agencies, community organizations, or the public. Performs criminal justice and homeland security planning and research work. Other Important Duties: Performs other such related duties as may be assigned.
Experience and Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in political science, management information systems, or a related field is generally preferred. Understanding and experience with the Incident Command System (ICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS) (Must have at a minimum completed ICS 100.a, 200.a, 700.a, 800). Education and experience may be substituted for one another. The ability to communicate in English and Spanish are a plus. High school graduate, or its equivalent, plus at least three (3) years of experience in emergency services; or any equivalent combination of experience and education that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Experience in emergency management or public safety work. Ability to maintain and prepare logs and reports, to perform multiple duties simultaneously, to comprehend and execute written and verbal instructions, to operate automated and manual information systems, and to communicate effectively. The use of database systems to enter and retrieve appropriate information related to project implementation and completion. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, contractors, committee members, public officials, and the general public. Demonstrate proficiency in both oral and written communication. Detail oriented and highly organized with ability to multi-task and a disciplined self-starter who thrives in both team and individual environments. Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws related to public safety and emergency management; and of program planning, implementation, and monitoring. Ability to gather, assemble, correlate, and analyze facts; to devise solutions to problems; and to communicate effectively. Skill in the use of a computer and applicable software.
