POSITION TITLE: Assistant Theatre Instructor

DEPARTMENT: Lower School

REPORTS TO: Head of Lower School

FLSA: Exempt 

TERM: 10 Months, 30 hours per week

POSITION SUMMARY: Charlotte Country Day School, an independent coeducational day school located in Charlotte, NC, is currently recruiting for a part-time (30 hours per week) Assistant Theatre Instructor. This position works in conjunction with the Lower School Theatre Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Teach vocal parts and accompany six grade-level productions a year (three weeks of preparation per show)
• Assistant teach all drama curriculum classes JK-4th
• Collaborate with the Lower School Theater Director to pull and create costumes for 1st-4th grade productions 
• Oversee and be a liaison to parent volunteers of students in JK-4th (120 students per grade)
• Catalog and maintain props and costumes
• Collaborate as part of the Fine Arts team on curriculum and instructional changes
• Build strong partnerships with families and communicate regularly about student learning with pictures of classroom experiences and productions 
• Uphold the mission and affirmation of community with colleagues, families, and students 

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Proficient piano accompaniment skills
• Experience leading vocal warmups and teaching vocal parts to singers
• Experience working with and teaching elementary aged children
• Strong background in Theater and/or Music education
• Basic knowledge of costume design 
• Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask
• Strong technology skills 
• Flexible, calm, collaborative, and adaptable personality
• Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion work
• Successful completion of a criminal background check
