We seek a committed, faith-filled, academically qualified leader who is able to embody and advance the mission of the school as an apostolic work of the Society of Jesus and serve as the Dean of Students.SummaryLoyola Academy seeks a Dean of Students who personally models and simultaneously empowers students to live Ignatian values of faith, service, self-discipline, and commitment to social justice. The Dean of Students creates and leads the implementation of the school’s discipline system and other structures necessary to promote student achievement, character development, and healthful culture both inside and outside the classroom. This includes oversight of student infractions, accountability and restorative practices, attendance, parking lot administration, and the Dean’s office staff and budget. The Dean of Students reports to the Principal and is a member of varied Teams.The Dean of Students must be someone who models cura personalis with all members of the Loyola Academy community – students, parents, faculty, and staff members. SPECIFICATIONS OF THE POSITIONThis is an 11-month, full-time salaried administrative staff position with full benefits. Serves at least 40 hours per week, with weekend and evening hours required as needed. The employee shall be considered to be on duty whenever a need exists for their services.About LoyolaLoyola Academy offers its student body of 2000 a rigorous and relevant college preparatory curriculum, a highly developed visual arts and music program, a diversity of athletic and extracurricular activities, and a strong retreat and service learning program. It is presumed that all candidates for this position possess a strong desire to actively contribute to the furthering of Loyola Academy’s mission. Qualifications
  • College degree; Master’s degree strongly preferred;
  • Commitment to the principles and practices of Jesuit education and Ignatian spirituality as set forth in Loyola Academy’s mission statement and the Profile of the Jesuit High School Graduate at Graduation;
  • Minimum of five years classroom teaching experience or commensurate exposure;
  • Demonstrated experience with diversity, equity, and inclusion work that promotes a safe and welcoming school environment;
  • Effective communication skills both in verbal and written form and the ability to establish and maintain strong interpersonal relationships with students, faculty, staff, and parents;
  • Demonstrated ability to engage others in difficult conversations and manage conflict;
  • Experience with restorative justice practices;
  • A growth mindset and a willingness to identify and assume new responsibilities in line with an evolving culture; and
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office and Google products.

Essential Functions
  • Fosters a school-wide culture of respect, honesty, and integrity.
  • Consistent with the school’s belief in cura personalis, or “care for the whole individual,” develops relationships with and meets the individual needs of students.
  • Works with students and faculty to maintain a safe learning environment and healthful school culture;
  • Effectively leads the Dean’s Office team and collaborates well with other departments, particularly the Counseling and Safety and Security Teams;
  • Understanding of cultural competency and the context of our school community. Has the ability to relate to a variety of people and needs.
  • Establishes an active and visible presence within the school community;
  • Is a calm and productive presence during emergent or challenging situations;
  • Develops, manages, and enforces social policies, codes of conduct, and attendance protocols, and practices that serves to support student development, learning, health, and safety;
  • Leads or co-leads in investigations regarding student infractions, including bullying behavior, improper academic use of technology, academic dishonesty, use of drugs and/or alcohol, theft of items, etc, and, as necessary works with the School Resource Officer;
  • Works with necessary persons to correct and develop behavior of students who have acted outside the bounds of the school’s expectations. This may include the establishment of behavior modification procedures and restorative measures;
  • Leads the development of Student Handbook policies and procedures;
  • Develops pro-active programming for students, parents, and teachers that focus on the healthful development of student behaviors that are aligned with our Graduate at Graduation profile.
  • Communicates regularly and pro-actively with parents to share information and resources, and to develop a supportive home-school relationship. Create a culture of engagement, trust, and support.
  • Maintains clear, accurate, and timely disciplinary and medical records, and;
  • Provides Dean’s Office presence and involvement with significant athletic and student events.
  • Provides guidance and training to faculty and staff on instructional practice as it relates to proactively and reactively supporting student behavior.
  • Oversees the printing and distribution of student identification cards.
  • Has a developmental mindset and practice with their work. Taps into available resources from colleagues and external sources to continually reflect on and improve their practice.
  • Leads their team in ongoing professional development.
  • Supervises, evaluates, and hires the Assistant Deans, School Nurses, Attendance Officers, and Administrative Assistant;
  • Assists with annual review of the Crisis Management Plan;
  • Supports the Associate Principals and the Principal in their roles; and
  • Serves on the Principal’s Leadership Team, School Leadership Council, MTTS Team, Crisis Management Team, and other ad hoc committees as requested.
