Loyola Marymount University is Hiring an Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) of Electrical and Computer Engineering Near Los Angeles, CA

The Frank R. Seaver College of Science and Engineering at LMU invites applicants to apply for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering to begin August 15, 2024.

With a long history of excellence in electrical engineering education, the department has recently expanded to include degree programs in computer engineering (BSE and MSE). We seek to hire an innovative teacher-scholar to bolster these new degree programs. In line with the university mission, our faculty are teacher-scholars working to advance the university beyond instruction by integrating science, technology, engineering, and math with Ignatian pedagogy to create deep student learning. Small class sizes foster an inclusive environment and create a space for innovative teaching practices. An integrated two-year design sequence and state-of-the-art laboratory equipment make possible meaningful hands-on learning experiences for our students. Targeted funding creates unique opportunities for faculty to mentor graduate and undergraduate students in research. We seek the next generation of mission-driven teacher-scholars to join our faculty.

Successful candidates will be dedicated to: 1) teaching a diverse student body in a transformative learning environment across a range of undergraduate and graduate courses, 2) developing a thriving research program that involves mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, 3) challenging themself, their students, and their colleagues to be actively anti-racist and work toward greater diversity, equity, and inclusion in the profession, and 4) participating in service activities at the academic, professional, and/or community levels.

The appointment follows a 9-month faculty contract period of August 15 - May 15 of each academic year. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in computer engineering or a closely related field, conferred no later than the position start date of August 15, 2024. Although all areas of computer engineering and related fields will be considered, the department is particularly interested in growing in the areas of robotics, applied artificial intelligence, machine learning, and embedded systems.

The following application materials must be submitted online by January 5, 2024 for full consideration.

* A cover letter summarizing your qualifications for the position;

* A curriculum vitae detailing your educational background, research accomplishments, and work experience, as well as any leadership and service experience (e.g., academic, professional, community) that you believe are relevant to this position;

* A statement of your teaching philosophy that addresses past and/or potential contributions that would be related to LMU's Mission, the practice of Ignatian Pedagogy, and/or your overall vision for your role as a teacher-scholar;

* A statement of current research and your plans for establishing a thriving research program in your area of expertise at LMU, including how you plan to involve undergraduate and/or graduate students in that program; and

* A statement that addresses past and/or potential contributions to anti-racism, diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility which might include: research, teaching and/or service that has prepared the candidate to contribute to the engagement and inclusion of diverse audiences in higher education, contributions to diverse perspectives and ways of knowing and learning, and/or research or professional experience with a specific focus on underserved communities or nations.

Questions regarding this position can be directed by email to Dr. Barbara Marino, Search Committee Chair at Barbara.Marino@lmu.edu.
